weird glitch w/ *.me TDL changeover
« on: July 25, 2011, 11:54:52 PM »
.
Didn't want this to get lost in the noise of discussion here:

> Announcements > BakaBT.me

Figure this topic might make a good bucket to catch any noticed burps & farts in the system.

Anyway, I went to the main bakabt.com tracker page & logged in.  Looked at a torrent or two & my tracker profile.  One of the torrents I was seeding became an unregistered for some reason (Coo's World | Coo no Sekai).

So, I opened another tab, but typed in bakabt.me as the TDL, re-downloaded the torrent & added it back into utorrent.  Checked Trackers to make sure everything is alright ... hmmm.  /july.bakabt.me:2710/  (And, yes, prior to updating the *.torrent file, the tracker did display as the *.me since it is a very recent offer and was approved after the switchover).

OKay ... so I know I logged in (hell, I've got my tracker profile open so I can see my Inactive list).... ahah!  Turns out that if you log in under the *.com TDL, you are NOT logged in under the *.me TDL.

I am surfing one tab under *.com all logged in, and surfing a second tab under *.me not logged in.

When I come here to the forum and log in under *.com, as mentioned in teh Announcementz, once you click through a link or two you are auto-directed through & surfing the *.me.

Anyway, no biggie.  Normal weirdness when migrating a website over.  Thought you should know, and a heads'-up to all to be a bit careful about watching your login status for a while.  Make sure you really are logged in or out and have some situational awareness about which TDL you are (or are not) surfing/logged in , etc.

Thank you to all staff for trying to keep ahead of the legal curveballs and going through the trouble to keep bakaBT up and alive!  Seriously, man, you guys are keeping me sane by keeping this community maintained & running properly; stress levels in RL are well over 9000+ and being able to access & watch anime means a whole lot more than usual right now.
I win, once again, in my never-ending struggle against victory.

That is due to cookies. You didn't have any for .me. Now you have one for it and will be logged in even when switching between the sites. The same case applies on the forum.

Not sure that is only it.  My cookies get wiped every time I close my browser.  The same effect would have been occurring yesterday, and also with the forum.  It may well be a cookie problem ... but it's not a one-time event.  I just duplicated it by logging out & back in ... had to log out twice from the tracker.

Meaning: I logged out of the *.com TDL but remained logged in & surfing just fine under *.me.   At this moment, you can log in and out of each TDL as if they are two separate sites.  Edit the URL to switch between them and you switch between a state of logged in and logged out, respectively.

[ EDIT: for clarity, so far this effect is only observed for the tracker, not the forum ... & I never played with the wiki or blog, so I don't know about those. ]

OKay .. played around with it for a short bit.  My observations remain unchanged.

I'm using Firefox 5.0 under WinXP SP3 w/ all current patches.  On the tracker, the *.me TDL and the *.com TDL behave as if they are two entirely independent websites, as far as logging in and out of my account.  I can surf two tabs side-by-side, one logged in, the other logged out (or both logged in, etc.).

I did a very aggressive cleaning of adobe assets and cookies and temp files.  Assume you meant: sysdrive:\Documents and Settings\[useraccount]\Application Data\Adobe\ ... it are n00ked, something I do at least once per day.  Nailed evreything else visible while I was at it & ran CCleaner with extreme prejudice.

Thing is ... my original observation would not be caused by the presence of cookies/assets but, rather, the absence.  Me going in a wiping them (and nothing bakaBT was seen during the mission) would do nothing more than set a clean slate.  The two versions of the website operating on the two different TDLs should be able to resolve that the same way it's resolved by visiting the forum.

I bear witness: such is not happening.

That is quite normal and expected behaviour.
Same goes for the SMF board - switching domains will automatically log you out (unless you choose keep me logged in on both).

///Closing.
