Why can't finnish people make any good music except metal. There's like a ton of japanese pop artists that I find interesting but I can't but hate most of the finnish artist. Only some ugly women who can't sing shit.

Well, where d'you live?

And
HORRIBLE DUBS EH?

My native language may be Swedish, and I may have moved away at such a tender age as to not give me the chance to learn Finnish properly, but I do know it's not exactly the most emotive language in the world. Even so: what the fuck?

No idea, eastern finland probably.  :D

But I'm on an eurotrip this week and the next. After that I'm kinda trying to find a place to live again, closer to coming uni now that I'm changing again.

But find me closer to trip time, I might just come around and drive to wherever you are if I've got enough money left then. :D

Because we can!

To any resident Finns: what should a tourist look out for? (I'm thinking food and general things of interest, I'll be in Helsinki if that's important).

1. Get the fuck out of Helsinki.
2. Get the fuck out of Helsinki.
3. GET THE FUCK OUT OF HELSINKI!

Now that that's done you should go hiking/camping/do whatever you want and sleep wherever you want since you're actually allowed to do that. Just no camping on someone else's lawn. Also fish, gather flowers, berries and mushrooms. And hunt russians. Yes. All of that's allowed. Except maybe the russians, just hunt swedes instead and it's all good.

Food, ugh, finnish food is quite lame. I recommend sauteed reindeer, fried pikeperch or smoked trout. All of those are going to be hard to obtain/expensive in Helsinki though.

Helsinki is really quite boring, there's nothing much. You could check the universities' sign boards for parties though. There are a lot of those, not so much during summer though. Just go drinking, make it your mission to walk through "Helsinginkatu" and have a drink at each bar on the way. It will make for an interesting week.  :D
(or a month)  ;D

Three days :P The other three will be spent in Tallinn. I can't stand staying in one place too long unless there's a butt load to do, and there rarely is...

I've been told about what beers to look out for, were both musicians so the music uni is already marked on my map, and I was given a tip on a cocktail called the "Hammer and Sickle," but I honestly don't know how reliable the information is. 1 part Vana Tallinn to 4 parts Russian White Wine (apparently). Our hotel is also a short stroll from Tavastia too... ^_^

Might have to try the reindeer...

^ Try a day trip to Hanko, long sand beaches, bars, and much more :P also, there you can find a lot of fresh fish for kind of cheap. They Speak finnish and swedish 50-50 there and also there is quite good service in english.

also, Tampere might be a good place to visit and don't forget Savonlinna.

Way too much travelling. I'll be sticking to Helsinki tbh; I'm going to Suemonlinna (?) whilst I'm around but as I said, only there for three days so I don't want to waste 1/3rd of that travelling. If I returned for a longer stay I'd probably spend more time exploring the surrounding areas.

Eh, possibly. It depends how long it takes us to look around Helsinki. Besides, your metro map looks like a clusterfuck of frightening and doesn't even take me that far, not to mention I thought they were pretty much just suburban areas nearby? It's like going to London and spending your time around the council estates...

Thats the tram map.

Metro map:
(click to show/hide)

Then we also have commuter trains and busses. Well, the easiest way around in Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa & Kauniainen area is to use busses or Train.
In Herlsinki it would be Tram.
...and subway if you want to get fast into the big areas that have lots of things. (more malls, etc)
Also, The commuter Train from Helsinki to Kauklahti takes about 30min.
Helsinki is just like a normal city, expect smaller. You find a lot of drunktards, etc from there. (as well as from Leppävaara and Espoon Keskus) But that just tells you where the pubs are :P

But to be straight, here isn't much in Finland to see. at least on the metropolitan area. just shopping centers, parks, and pubs.
only few good and neat looking beaches. but the Lakes are worth seeing. at least on the evening when they are all silent. you might see few fishes.

You could also waste one day effectively at Linnanmäki.

The difreence between Espoon and Helsinki is that Espoo has less malls/shopping centers and more nature :P Hell, I live in Espoon Keskus and am able to see forest from my window :P

and suburban? Whole fucking Finland is suburban. here is 5 375 276 finns in a country around the size of Japan.
(that amount is from late December 2010)

Halsinki is only a nearly a city, there is only over 600 000 finns living in Helsinki, and in Paris there is  2,1 million. yeah, that is nearly half of the whole population in Finland. The only things to see here really are forests and lakes. ...and lappland.

but if you want to see buildings, then go to Helsinki, it will remind of you from St.Petersburg. Only that Helsinki is smaller.
But well, you could go to see the olympia stadion in Helsinki, yes it is called olympia stadion, korkeasaari, that is a zoo btw, or seurasaari. finnish nature and history on its best :P and of course Linnanmäki and the National Museum.

but nothing else, that is all.

sry, I did write longer than I tough I would >.<

Nah, lengthy is fine if its useful. I had heard about one place out of the way that sounded like it might be interesting, Kaitalampi lake or something (stupid Finnish spellings >.<), but it depends if we have time. My friend is very much a city dweller so dragging him out of major metropolitan areas requires some careful planning on how I'm gonna sell it to him. Going to a lake is easy, I'll just tell him there's wild piranha inhabiting it or something.

Never been to St. Petersburg. Hell, this is my first trip to Eastern Europe, but there is a reason I'm only going for a few days. Estonia looked like a great place to visit but I wouldn't want to spend too long there, and when I noticed the ferry was only a couple of hours I thought i'd extend my long weekend into a week, adding Finland to the journey. I mean nothing derogatory about this, there isn't an awful lot special about where I live either. A chunk of a roman wall by a lake, a couple of museums, an old roman market that has nothing to do with the romans any more. They sometimes shoot "Eastenders" down here, when they need a church for something, but that's about it.

^ haha, Kaitalampi is a great place, was quite close to the place I used to live :P Well, it isn't so good for swiming, but it has gorgeous landskape and good fishing waters.

and well, Kaitalampi is a pool... :P doesn't quite tell you anything so:
A small and rather deep collection of (usually) fresh water, as one supplied by a spring, or occurring in the course of a stream; a reservoir for water; as, the pools of Solomon

and in english it would be Narrowpool :P It takes ~3-4hrs to walk around it.

so, if you go there, go with time, take a fishing rod with you (the one that uses worms or other stuff, shrimps or batter are quite good as well) since, you don't need fishing license for that, buy some sausages (there should be places where you can prepare them in Kaitalampi) and few cans of beer and enjoy finnish nature, I can't promise you get any fish, but at least you get to enjoy your time. :P oh, and you must grill the sausages on fire :P

Just say to your friend ''we are going to really popular place.''
:P you won't meet many people if you go on weekday.

Neither of us fish so that's out, but I was thinking it might make for a final relaxing day before we fly back, which would make it a Saturday. Then of course, back to civilisation to get hammered.

EDIT: It just occurred to me how small Finland's population is. There are twice that many people living in London, and 10x that in England o_O

^ yah, so I can quarentee, you can have time for yourself, actualy, outside of pubs, no one wont even talk to you, they may look at you and seem to be interested, but they wont start talking to you, if you don't talk to them 1st.

but well, even if you don't fish, you can do many other things aswell, you can walk around the pool and look at the landskape.

Hah, no different than here then. The English aren't known for being the most outwardly sociable bunch, though I always thought the Finnish were known as being amongst the friendliest people in Europe? Y'know, how the Germans go about holidays as though it was still a war, how the French make every room smell and complain a lot, the Americans are all overweight morons you want to pat on the head like a lost puppy, etc, etc.

^ well, the thing is, Finnish people are shy, if not drunk :P so, we are really friendly if you come to talk to us :P but we wont come and start talking to you, many will think that if they would come and talk to you, they would bother you.
and in a lobby, that is the place where many start to chit chat with the person right next to themselfs. because, silence does bother people, why do I listen music always? I hate total silent I like to talk, but I like to talk only about the things that interest me.
