Reconfigure keyboard multimedia keys
« on: August 06, 2011, 09:43:18 PM »
Does anyone know of good software to do this under windows 7?
It's standard multimedia/internet keys, I would like to reassign a few to launch an application instead of opening bookmarks and search.
I was spoiled by Logitech keyboards which let you reassign any key to do any action...

Keyboard is plug and play, it comes with no driver support.

Not sure, but possibly AutoHotkey has what you're looking for.  I just downloaded it yesterday as a replacement for Winkey since I switched to Windows 7 over the weekend, and haven't yet installed or really read up on it yet.

EDIT - yeah, I think AutoHotkey may have what you're looking for.  The key list does include multimedia keyboard keys on it.

I tried it, but I had not a clue on how to use it...
KeyTweak was the closest to what I want, but I couldn't get it to work nor map the keys to run a specific app when pressed.

Its "Omega Cassiopeia"

I was looking for illuminated keyboard brand that can be bought here (Serbia), and the price range, performance, ergonomics etc. were relatively pleasing. And I'm not exactly unsatisfied with it, but I didn't think there was no driver support for it or that remapping them would be such a difficult task (I know I can map normal key combinations to do those things, but that's not what I'm looking for).

I know I could have got Logitech "Illuminated keyboard" but it's hard to find here, and the price is a bit much...

Backlit keys? Pffft, n00b. Real men use completely blank keyboards because the key positions are burned into their souls of manliness.

The linear nature of your Euclidean geometry both confounds and befuddles me.

This is the best and only reason to buy anything.
