It does display SRT, SSA, ASS subs etc but the font size and colour makes reading those subs very taxing. It will only render subs in plain white, no borders. And on large TV's the subs are too small, even on the largest setting. White text + small font = Unreadable subs half the time.

Hence why I said go with dune or PCH instead of wdtv both dune and pch run the updated sigma sdk which got a new ssa engine that a few pch users were helping get together. Here are a couple screenshots to show the progress we have made but they still also show some problems.

This one shows font is correct although thinner, and missing shadow and text starting off screen

But we are slowly making progress. Hopefully when the new chip line launches we will be able to make more progress on karaoke and things. If anime is 50%+ of your viewing material by all means go a pc you will be happier if you are like me and its maybe around 20% of my viewing material I can make do with not 100% accurate subs as it does not effect every rls/episode

I have nothing to say about the Access database...

I do protest against your apathy to the lack of USB 3.0 though. For one, it's five times the speed of the LAN. And USB 3.0 externals are actually showing up now, though they have been slow to catch on, I'll give you that much. Comparing the price of a USB 2.0 to a USB 3.0 drive of the same size from the same brand yields a difference of about $10-20.

Well, you should probably take that drive out anyway. Dump it into an external enclosure and sell it or something after you clone it.

As for alternatives, since it's not just for home media playback, it's probably fine, even though it's still fairly overpowered for your purposes. But that's not really a bad thing, because you know it'll last longer that way. So no suggestions from me for alternatives.

Yep its 17 inch I believe and heavier.

Access is king.

I'm not going to spend, say $150, totaling $600, to replace my 4 2TB externals with USB 3.0 2TB externals. Maybe one day, but certainly not anytime soon, as they are only for back ups/watching animu when I'm on holiday. Even if I did need to transfer stuff between computers, it's less annoying to copypasta while sitting down than to plug in a usb, copy stuff, plug it in my laptop, and then pasta it there. Sure, when I need a new external, I'll get a USB 3.0, but it has no reason to be plugged into my laptop as I store nothing there. My main computer has a USB 3.0 port for that reason. I can see your point, but I really don't need it.

Not going to take out the drive even if I don't need that much space. I know it's in a little compartment, but still the idea of opening up my laptop makes me very nervous.

Thanks for all your help :P

Looks pretty good. Does it do Hi10P? But, since anime is 100% of my viewing, a laptop would probably be better :)

I wasn't telling you to replace them. My point was that USB 3.0 support makes your system more "future-proof," so that if you ever end up purchasing something that uses USB 3.0, you would be able to use it to its full potential.

But hey, suit yourself.

There's a first for everything. And most people are nervous on their first attempt.

Which model of popcorn hour did you use for those screenshots couple posts back? Does it work like that out of the box? After a little digging, I can get the A-110, A-200, S-210 and C-200 over here. The specs look mostly the same +/- some internet features.

That looks promising, way better than the WD, Asus and AC ryan players I've been looking at. Is their firmware support good?
