I did not. I blame my dad for this, because he had insisted on teaching me himself. His very unique and not at all successful method consisted of throwing me off that air mattress thingy and telling me to just swim. After about 40 minutes, he gave up. Lucky me.

if you can do that you can swim long distances with short breaks

I just love to have a swim in a lake in the middle of the night. Swim to something like middle of the lake and look at the starts while floating on the back. All quiet (ears under water) and dark just you and the stars. I hate pools, way to much people even if you rent one line they still manage to get on ones nerves....

Lived on the sea-side in Italy so i learn t fast, still my girlfriend at the time was much faster than me, she used to do synchronized swimming,

What's funny? I still can't swim proper.

It's completely unefficient. I suck at staying a float but if I dive, I pretty much zoom.

When I was 5 and I was at the pool with my mom for like the second or third time, I forget. Anyways we were at the deep end. I was letting go of the edge and going underwater and she would pull me out when I waved my hands. Well some lady come over and started talking to my mom and they were so immersed in the conversation, that she forgot to pay attention to me when I went underwater. I think I must have been underwater flailing my arms for 30 seconds, before I finally managed to start pushing water with my hands and get my head out to breath.

i took swimming lessons when i was 8 and after 2months the comment i received from the instructor was "you're sinking" so yea, i suck at it.

I started swimming lessons with the school when I was about 7. Nearly drowned in my first lesson, had to claw the leg of a fat girl in my class to get back from under the water. Lol.

I couldn't really swim till I was about 12 though. I'm still not a brilliant swimmer. My littlest sister can swim over a mile, I'd never make it.

lol, despite all my swimming lessons I don't know how to swim. Now whenever I swim I just do whatever my brain tells me to do to stay afloat.

I live on an island so naturally I have to swim to get to school... No really, there are bridges >_> About 200 metres down to the sea for me, I can see it from the windows

I learned to swim somewhere around 6, and swim quite often in my free time. I did take swimming lessons for some time after learning to swim but I don't even remember those since it was so long ago.

dont know how old i was it was young as hell, in a pool parents taught me. Me and my brother both very strong swimmers and continue to do goofy shit involving swimming on occasion.

I recall walking into water, chest deep, then somehow trying to figure out how to tread.

swimming though was likely lessons. I sucked (and still do) at breast stroke. But I wasn't bad at dolphin and butterfly.
