Will a burned copy of window 7 work?
artiski:
My cousin burned his Window 7 ultimate CD, and gaved me the copy. Will this work if i use it to reformat my computer? Will the CD key work as well?
Bob2004:
Why wouldn't it? You'll need to crack it, if it isn't an OEM copy, but that's easy enough.
Freedom Kira:
Windows puts no kind of protection on their discs as far as I know. You can make however many copies as you want.
The key, however, will only work with one computer, as it is tied to the computer's hardware (I believe it is the motherboard's serial number). I've heard that you can use the key for one desktop and one laptop, but I have not tried it. I've also heard of people (in particular, some friends of mine) who called in to activate the install for the installations after the first and that would work for three people (you have to lie and say it's just for one computer). This was for the Vista to 7 upgrade disc, but I don't see why it wouldn't also work with the regular install disc.
HiddenJumper:
The install does work for one desktop and one laptop. I've done it myself on a couple occassions. But I always keep a crack nearby just in case something goes wrong.
blubart:
you can even download the disc image directly from the msdn servers ;)
