Network share hard drive?

(1/1)

tomoya-kun:
I've got all my HDDs plugged into one computer, any way to share those over the network?  To access them from a Laptop or another computer?

I have tried drive sharing on windows but it doesn't seem to work.  Does anyone else perform this function on their network or know how to do it?

kitamesume:
you`ll need the same workgroup and you dont just share the drive, theres deeper settings that needs to be changed, like who's allowed to access the drive under "permission", setting it to "everyone||read/write allowed" is the way to go if you want total drive access.

turn that PC into a NAS, problem solved.

Freedom Kira:
In Linux, install Samba.

In Windows, right-click the drive, go to Properties, select the Sharing (I think) tab at the top, and select the appropriate checkbox.

tomoya-kun:
The problem is, I would have to use a windows util as my windows PC has all my torrents in the client (400+)

Freedom Kira:
I don't get how that's relevant at all. Care to elaborate?

Here's what I do. I save stuff to a folder called "Downloading" when I'm torrenting. When they're done, the client automatically moves the files to a folder called "Anime." If I need to, I can manually move data around, but the majority goes straight to where I want it. "Anime" is shared over the network, and "Downloading" is not.
