AMNESIA.

Goddamnit that was one hell of a story. (and game)

True, but original stories hold more value imo. Amnesia was heavily influenced directly by various horror novels from the Lovecraft era.

Original in the way you are inferring don't exist.  Every story is influenced by something, they always follow some kind of trend.  If you mean stories/plots that are not over used hold more value, I agree.

Amnesia was good and being influenced by Lovecraft does not decrease value at all.

Okay, let me alter that for you. It almost directly lifts several themes and plot-points from specific horror stories of that period.

Chronomaster - scripted by Roger Zelazny - a guy investigating pocket universes placed in statis.
Planetfall - written by Steve Meretzky - OMG, the poor, trustworthy robot!!  I really felt sorry for it.  Now that takes great writing!

I really love FFVII and Fire emblem series so I'll have to give it to those, with Tales series coming close second.

Final Fantasy X&X-2
Resident Evil(Before #4)
Really?
The RE games have always been incredibly cheesy and badly written.
And X-2 was so bad it felt like a parody of final fantasy.

I really liked the stories in Chrono Trigger, Starcraft 1, and KOTOR1, probably the best out of any games I can remember playing at the moment.  I've got Mass Effect 1 & 2 on Steam, which I'll eventually get around to playing, and have pretty high expectations that the stories there will be at least as good.
It took an hour to write; I figured it'd take an hour to read.

I loved Resident Evil 2&3 though I hated the other ones.
&I guess you are kinda right about x-2 but I did love Final Fantasy X!

Bahamut Lagoon - Perhaps my favorite game of all time. If you've never played it, download it.
Digital Devil Saga - While similar to Star Ocean: End of Time, I like that it dealt with more mature topics.
Final Fantasy IV - Best story of the entire series.

People who dismiss Assassins creed as not having a good storyline, don't understand the storyline.

They think it's just a guy using technology to jump back in time.
The Animus isn't the central part of the storyline, the underlying themes are immense.
You think darkness is your ally? You merely adopted it.
I was born in it, built in it.
I didn't see the light until I was a man, by then, it was nothing but blinding.

It's not that we don't understand the storyline... it's just that if the game was JUST centered in the past (instead of coming back to present day every so often) would of made the game's flow a little better. I think it's a little corny to be in present and then "jump" back into the past... it's like the game can't get the mood right.

lol and that's your excuse? ...That's why the game is in a series. The present day storyline is slow and goes with every released game. I have to admit the gameplay does get better with each game, and does the storyline, but the games storyline in the first one was best executed. thats just me.

To say it can't get the mood right....well i disagree, it's a very dynamic storyline, and im still trying to figure it out.

My excuse for not liking the story? Of course. I don't like jumping back and forth in time and changing the games setting every so often. Because as hard I was want to be in Rome as Altaïr... I'm ripped out to do the lame quests as Desmond. -.-

Altair was never in Rome.

Shows how much I cared about the story and characters because of the plot continuity.  ;)

SotC? Really? It's a great game, but it barely even has a story. The little story it does have is very cliché >_>

People again don't understand SoTC.
They play the game and that's it, they think they know the storyline.

After I played the game I was like wtf is this bs. I was left with more questions after completing it. Even playing the game I payed no attention to the storyline. It was only till after I went online to the SoTC forums and google that it was explained in detail, all the under lying themes. And then I went away thinking this is the best game ever.
