Never listened to the OP in Canto.

But if you find a clip of Shinji speaking, compare to Japanese and you'd agree in a moment the Canto voice actor is far superior a choice to the Japanese one. Tone wise to char personality etc.

For Canto dubbed anime I watched when younger....

I have to say, the Korean VA who did Rei sounded really good in the second clip. She stood out the most for me. Very expressive. Although a little off character considering Rei is not exactly the most expressive.
