Dubbed Anime classics from you country.
« on: August 21, 2011, 02:24:34 AM »
I can name a few titles that prolly no one in this forum have ever heard about.
There's stuff that I can't even find raws for.

Titles that are pretty famous and dubbed by multiple languages:
Classic Super Robot Anime (Grendizer, Mazinger Z, Space Battleship Yamato, Combattler V etc..)
World Masterpiece Theater Titles (3000 Leagues in Search of Mother, Heidi, Girl of the Alps, A Dog of Flanders etc)
Ashita no Joe.
Ie Naki Ko.
Captain Tsubasa.
Astro Boy.
Doramon.
Future Boy Conan.
Plawres Sanshirou.
Takarajima.

Titles you've prolly never heard of:
Astroganger.
Bouken Korobokkuru
Mori no Youki na Kobito-tachi: Belfi to Lillibit
Manga Doshite Monogatari
Arabian Nights: Sindbad no Bouken
Ribbon no Kishi
Andes Shounen Pepero no Bouken
Gamba no Bouken

There's a few titles that I can't find the Japanese title for.
On a side note, I noticed that stuff that is popular in the Arab world is also popular in Greece for some reason. Igano Kabamaru for example.

Let me tell you a few mistakes you've made...

1. Wrong forum... should be under Anime Discussion
2. Dubbed classics? Is that sorta like a jumbo shrimp? Or a wireless cord extension? Or a loud whisperer? Or a militant pacifist? Or a sober drunk? Or friendly enemies? (I think you are getting my point) What about genuine imitations? Are Dubbed classics anything like invisible ink?

I mean seriously... I think I should add dubbed classics to the oxymoron list.

^ this is right i guess, this should be in the lounge, for the reason it's not about the anime themselves. but the fact that they have been dubbed in a lot of languages and no raws available for them.

you're nitpicking on "dubbed classic". they're not classic because of their dub, they are classics that are only available dubbed.

We have these here

Classic Super Robot Anime (Grendizer, Mazinger Z, Space Battleship Yamato Voltes V, Combattler V etc..)
World Masterpiece Theater Titles (3000 Leagues in Search of Mother, Heidi, Girl of the Alps, A Dog of Flanders etc)

we also have Sinbad, and Doraemon too.
another thing we have is Cyborg Kuro-chan and Nintama Rantaro (which will have a live action soonish, or probably had).

Beyblade series and co. too, i don't recall those having Raws, but they're dubbed almost everywhere i think.

So they are classics in Greek? I could see some of those animes being cool or note worthy in that part of the world. But I'm pretty sure if someone looked hard enough, you can find the raws of anything (maybe not the more obscure ones).

I don't understand this thread either.

Cantonese dubs are damn good. I watched almost all the Miyazakis in Cantonese when I was young.

I agree. Hong Kong and Taiwanese dubs are pretty good. Much better than English dubs I find.

1- Since there's no actual discussion about anime, I don't think this is a problem.
2-"Dubbed classics" that could be a typo, I was awake 30 hours when I made this. But the idea is the same, any titles named here can be classics in their respective country that's been dubbed in.

Perhaps "cartoons" or "all animations" would be a better title? I'm not sure, things like Ben & Jerry dubbed into other languages.

Dubs though, just no, in English everyone sounds like they're 10 and prone to spouting out cheesy lines that ruin the atmosphere. For example, I watched GSD first as an English dub, well started, and i hated it. All the girls made me want to punch their voices. However, subbed, way better, even if I have to read.

I'm gunna leave you anyway.

I agree.

Might want to add that I watched NGE in Cantonese. Then swapped to Japanese and was like, "OMFG WTF IS THIS EAR CANCER?????" The chars didn't sound right at all.

.
From my childhood, in the magical country of Oosaa, I can add to the Astro Boy level of classics that I have only been able to find dubbed into the native language; the original Japanese seems to have been lost or never was:

 - Kimba
 - Speed Racer

And, I'd about sell my left nut to watch those in Japanese with subs.

There was also Cyborg 009, but that is (thankfully) available in Japanese.
I win, once again, in my never-ending struggle against victory.

They are not bad but what is a Hong Kong dub?  Like in Cantonese?

Yea, I never watched them though, but I am fairly certain that they are the biggest selling anime around here.

As far as actual dubbed classics (movies) I would probably say Fist of the North Star, Akira and Princess Mononoke.... Hmm, maybe the first GITS movie also.

In all lists, those with an asterisk indicates that the anime has its first Philippine run in the channel, while those with a plus sign indicates that show's first run in a channel aired in the Philippines was dubbed in English. All programs listed below are dubbed in Filipino as the channel is only broadcast in the Philippines.
90% of the listed animes are dubbed to filipino(tagalog) the remaining is either subbed or dubbed to engrish.

Dragonball Z
Gundam Wing
Sailor Moon
Tenchi Muyo/Universe/Tokyo
Pokemon
Beyblade
Ultimate Muscle (lol)
Outlaw Star
Cowboy Bebop

Didn't even know what "anime" was when i watched them mind you, since i only started anime knowing what it is 3 years ago. Anyone around my age in the UK probably saw them on Toonami in the early 2000s
