mIRC is what I use. Although I haven't used any other clients (thus nothing else to base my answer off of) I would recommend mIRC. The only downside is the "30 day trial" shit. I have a crack prepared that i have shared with soryon already, and i'd love to give it to you if you decide to get mIRC.

link removed is the crack just in case. I won't be around too much after today.

I use kvirc/mirc on windows.

I use xchat on linux.

I recommend kvirc since it's very customizable.

I use Xchat on both windows and linux ("Ychat" is the win port).  I've heard kvirc is good, and I don't like mIRC although it is very popular.

Any particular reason?

Recently I've started to use Miranda as an IRC xdcc downloader, becase mIRC have some problems with downloading more than 1 package at the same time. Anyway for conversations I still prefer mIRC over than Miranda.

Yeah, let's all use ancient irc like it's a fucking 1995!  ;D
For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

Personal preference. I don't like the way it manages the channel windows.  I also don't like being nagged for money every time I start it up.

nettalk ---> free, open-source, user-friendly, light, full-functionality. best choice imo.

Used irssi for a while, but then switched to weechat because it has a lot less setup to do and is configurable in a bunch more languages than Perl.

I've only ever really been interested in terminal clients because I run irc in a screen session on a server.

mIRC here. Love the filetree view of servers and rooms. Default font is great. Stuff like autojoining servers, auto ghosting, and the like would be nice, instead of using my contrived scripts that are not automatic in the least, jut require a lot less typing. It was worth the $20 or so it cost.

Can't you just set a default server (if possible, I think it is), hit the connect button and have a perform on connect script run everything? (This still requires one button click, so not much better than typing in a script name.)

On that note, it should be possible to have a script that starts when mIRC does. Since many popular addons run that way.

If only the windows version was as functional as the linux version. i'd +1 this.
