Normally run irssi on my Unix box but I just did a check and you can get irssi under Cygwin.  It would the same irssi that runs under Linux/Unix but then you would have to use Cygwin.

It actually works great, it is just a tab in my internet browser.

putty+irssi.

* Kyrdua googles

no, no results. is it installed remotely/in a virtualbox then used through putty?
I kinda hate the bloated(qtframework dependency) KVIrc for windows.

He's probably got a headless box somewhere (or a desktop install, for that matter) that has irssi installed and he is SSHing on to it via putty.  An entire OS in a virtual machine just for an IRC program seems like it would be a lot more bloated than any windows IRC client.

I was gunna say that. Running a virtual machine for one thing, silly.

I'm gunna leave you anyway.

Or, you know, you can use the programs available on your OS as is.

Nein.
Although I like the use of |

I just think Virtual machines are typically pointless unless you're remote accessing. Dual booting is much more useful.

I'm gunna leave you anyway.

Virtual machines are good to run programs that don't run in your OS.

You heard what I just said about Dual booting right? If you really need Windows, Linux AND Mac then you're not doing something right.

Well, if I've got lots of work documents open, and I want to play 15 minutes of OSU!, why would I close everything, then restart the comp?

It takes about 20 seconds to resume a VM from a suspended state.

what's remote accessing in this context?
I dual booted before with linux (multiple, was distro hopping ;D) and xp. it indeed was great.
i only needed XP for MS Office/Photoshop back then.

Virtual Machines/emulators are great. They are useful for legacy support. Things like playing dos games, PS2 games or 16-bit programs in a 64-bit environment.

If you actually want the full feature set of two different contemporary OSs then dual booting is better.

At least I used it last spring.

Hah, I think I might actually be agreeing with Tomoya for once.

I once had XP installed as a main OS, and Ubuntu installed in dual boot and in a virtual machine. I hardly ever booted into Ubuntu. If there was ever a time I needed to use Ubuntu, I would also need to continue using XP for everything else.

Seamless mode is awesome, by the way.
