Question about HJ-Split
« on: August 26, 2011, 04:50:55 AM »
I would like to know how to join files that type are not .001 or whatever how do i convert it so i can "join"? I already know how to "join" them but could you explain how to make a file that is in mkv into that. I would greatly appreciate it if you could. Do not send me to youtube or the website cause all they tell you is open file go to join find file and it works. I am not looking for that. I have 4 files that are 100mbs and in mkv but I cannot seem to figure out how to do whatever change I need to do to make its type to 001 and whatever. Thank you in advance!

I thought when you download HJ-Split it comes with the split and joining in one program?

Right, firstly were assuming that they're actually files split by HJSplit, in which case it's merely a matter of renaming them to .001/.002/etc etc. Odds are, however, that anyone splitting them using this program won't have decided to rename them to .mkv files just to piss you off. It's far more likely you have one file that has been split into four parts at the encoding stage (as opposed to "its been encoded, lets split it into parts for easier uploading) - think four episodes of a TV series - and what you want to do is join them into one. For that, you need a whole host of completely different programs to extract the files, join them together and create a completely new .mkv file, and for that you need someone with more experience with encoding processes. What I would personally recommend is that you lump it. By the time you've figured it out and merged them all together, you'll have wished you'd spent the extra 5 second annoyance in simply playing the next damn file on the list. Hell, make a playlist and put them in order. Problem solved.

What I'd like to ask is why you want to join them together into one file? Are you unable to open the files separately or something?

you can't open split files (like say rar,r001,r002,etc), you have to join them first.

(click to show/hide)

can you post where you downloaded them? or what the filenames are?

The show is called Slayers and its the movies that are split into four parts. I am not sure if I can put the link to it since its from another site like Bakabt. The site is demonoid if that helps. Its called Slayers Ultimate collection.  This is how the files are setup like:  1995 Slayers - The Motion Picture/Slyrs the Motion Picture part 1.mkv   100.00 MB
1995 Slayers - The Motion Picture/Slyrs the Motion Picture part 2.mkv   100.00 MB
1995 Slayers - The Motion Picture/Slyrs the Motion Picture part 3.mkv   100.00 MB
1995 Slayers - The Motion Picture/Slyrs the Motion Picture part 4.mkv   63.20 MB

So if you know how to do that I would greatly appreciate it. Or do I have to download it again and rechange the name or whatever?

Why can't you just watch them separately? I'm pretty sure the encoders split the video into four separate video files on purpose to help people with low download speeds.

If you use a playback program like Zoomplayer, it'll even start playing the next file automatically when you're finished with each one. For other players, just open the whole directory and it'll put all four episodes into the playlist and play them sequentially.

If you insist, though, you'd need a program like MKVMerge and quite a bit of time. It's not really worth it IMO.

I would have like to have done that but when I do do that it plays only 18mins of the video then skips to next only to freeze and not play.

kureshii:  I did what you showed me but I get an error saying files do not match.

You downloaded it from demonoid. Guess what? The solution to your problem was in one of the comments:

Download the hj splitter program mentioned in previous pages then rename the 4 files from .mkv 's to the following method;

001.001 first 001 being the name and the 2nd 001 being the extension.
001.002 first 001 being the name and 002 being the extension.
001.003 first 001 being the name and 003 being the extension.
001.004 first 001 being the name and 004 being the extension.

Then use the hj splitter program to "Join" them all together. Once thats done rename the new file back to whatever.mkv once again and it should have merged all into one single complete file. PM me if you need more clear instruction.

I saw that comment but I do not understand what that guy was talking about I have no Ideal on how to do that or what steps to change that extension.  Could you explain that to me if you know how to do that?

File extensions, change them from .mkv to .001 .002 and so on.....
If you can't see the file extensions, that you'll have to do it on your own, even a kid knows how to do this.

That's one of the first options I turn off as soon as I complete a Windows install.  I'll never understand why anyone would not want to see a complete file name with the extension.
It took an hour to write; I figured it'd take an hour to read.

^ it looks annoying with it when you dont need it, but helpful if you're managing a folder full of files.

would be nice if microsoft implement a "by folder" of that "hide extensions".

Care to explain why?

I have that option enabled and I don't see any reasons to turn it off unless necessary.

It makes each directory look cleaner.
The detailed view shows the filetype anyways, no need it to show it in the filename.
My files are organized in a way that it's easy to determine the filetype.
