What keeps you up?
« on: August 27, 2011, 01:12:13 AM »
So as a gamer/anime fan i tend to stay up late watching anime playing games very late maybe 3 AM, that even happens when i got something important in the morning after.

My question is when you stay up getting caught up in some game/anime/w/e what do you do to stay up even longer?

Maybe this is just me but if i gotta get up at 7 AM and i havent gone to bed at 3 i realise that i will be completely incapable of getting up at 7 so i stay up and get through the coming day without sleep.

What makes me keep it together in this case is Techno, not really much of a listener to the genre but i have noticed how it can keep you awake no matter how tired you are.

O.o

72 hours? Really? I started getting loopy around hour 36 or 37 (I was on a train). I kept on seeing really attractive people getting on the train and I thought I was imagining it. Got to where I was going and fell right asleep.

Moving around? like say, hanging out with friends or something.
If i have to stay up the whole day after a night without sleeping

that's what i do. Do note that you should not do anything potentially
dangerous. because you will be groggy and you'll have a slower
reaction time because of your lack of sleep.

Water cycle.

Phase 1: Energy drinks (quick fix)
Phase 2: Food (balancer)
Phase 3: WATER
Phase 4: Cold rush

Through the use of your body's need to pee, you keep awake. Excess caffeine is no good. The water cycle works well, and is less likely to kill you. I shit you not on that one.
This is your home now. So take advantage of everything here, except me.

Also, the excessive urge to post on the forums, because I only go on at night.  Oh, that's a big one!

Nothing really tbh. I like my sleep and being awake in the day.

Sometimes I can't sleep due to noisy people though, or because my brain won't shut off. I don't choose these things though (in fact last time my neighbours were noisy I got so pissed off I broke the bottom of my front door :/ )

I just don't like the day. I prefer the night for all fun activities. I love darkness I guess. So I like staying up the whole night and leeching the fun out of it. The day is so boring and with sunlight everywhere, it's annoying. I especially hate it when the light falls on my monitor. Anger sky-rockets.

I'm an old man, and I've been on the same work schedule for 10+ years, so even if I want to stay up late, most of the time I physically can't do it.  Sometime between 10:30pm & 11:30pm, my biological clock flips a switch and it's all I can do to stay awake long enough to turn off the TV and get into bed.
It took an hour to write; I figured it'd take an hour to read.

It is possible to train your body to survive on just a few hours sleep. I learnt this on my last holiday where I was living of 3-4 hours sleep a night, no energy drinks - maybe a coffee at best - and whilst it took me a little while to wake up, after that I was fine. If I'm up late I'm usually watching a film and I can time it easily enough. I'm permanently busy so I'm good at timing things. Though sadly also good at procrastinating. I'm meant to be writing for a blog/writing a note/sorting out holiday snaps/putting away clean clothes/drinking beer right now and so far I've spent an hour eating and watching TV and the rest of the time reading forums and writing this note.

I'll think i'll start with the beer ^_^

A guy with gold anchors on his collar yelling at me.

Otherwise, a combo of way too much cold coffee (easier to chug) and cycles of pushups and situps every hour.

How does boredom keep you up?

Boredom tends to put (me at least) to sleep.

For me to stay up, I need to have something to do that DOES NOT INVOLVE reading or watching. If I read or watch something if I'm even slightly tired, I will fall asleep.

I have this weird thing that I need to have something to exhaust my mind a little before I can fall asleep.
So reading something, watching something, playing something. Pretty much anything.
If I'm bored as hell I won't be able to sleep since my mind will run in circles around me.

...yes, it detaches from my brain.

Because we can!

Likewise, I sometimes try to push for an all nighter just for the hell of it, but if I'm watching something or reading (this one especially) I'll just end up falling asleep and wake up next morning with book in hand on the page where I left off (if I'm lucky). I need to be busy busy busy to stay awake all night
