"Supposedly" we have a pump in our basement that's suppose to turn on when the flooding in the basement starts. The power was off, so it flooded anyways. -.-

in places where you commonly see power outage coupled with your flooding they usually suggest battery backup systems for you sump pump which helps alleviate this a bit

My hurricane party was me + a few beers + some anime + the occasional random thought of "Gee, I'm glad someone else got hit this time and not my state." 

Although actually I'm not unsympathetic, as natural disasters of any kind are no fun.  I have family in Virginia (Newports News, actually, same town where I think a young kid got crushed by a tree or something), Maryland, and in New England.  Fortunately, I think everyone I knew made it through without major hardship.
