Temple of Elemental Evil and Arcanum, both are based on older pen and paper RPGs, and fairly faithful. Icewind Dale 1 and 2, the last games made by Black Isle, both good but don't quite live up to their other game.

And if you include older games, Planescape and Ultima as already mentioned are good. Might and Magic series(the original, not Heroes or Dark Messiah) is also good, MM6 is a must play if you haven't.
Arcanum and Icewind Dale are pure classics, Loved them, I never had a chance to play Temple of elemental evil for too long, when it came out I had serious issues with current computer, I'll try giving it a try again later on, but I don't remember it being cuztomizable.

As for MM series, I never liked the gameplay, having hordes of units with just one on it and numbers, it was never my kind of game. As far as this kind of gameplay goes Etherlords and Disciples games are far better with single units and constant progress, with simple gameplay and complex story.

Dark Messiah was a crap. Was Heroes ever released ? i played the demo and gamespot lists Heroes as cancelled.

Well, I was looking at games like Diablo, Bauldur's Gate and Icewind Dale. Then I saw their names pop up in here.

How about Torchfire? The Witcher?

Oops. Mistake.

It's called Torchlight not torch fire.

It sounds like you are thinking of Heroes of Might and Magic. Look at this and this. One is an rpg series comparable to Daggerfall/Wizardry and the other is turn based strategy.

Due to some unnecessary dorama involved with suggesting emulated console games *glares at the two people involved*, and the resulting post cleanup, I'd just like to reiterate the fact that this thread is for recommending PC games only. If they're multi-port games, that's fine too, just don't recommend any PS2 games etc.

That said, keep on topic. That is all.

Thank you :)

And so I decided to say that due to some unforeseen situation at my home (my gf brought a stray kitteh and it's quite hectic atm with it being adorable and all that) I will start these games tomorrow:
-Torchfire
looks candy, but I like candy enough to have fun with them.
-Drakensang: the river of Time
Which btw gets a new expansion soonish which from what I read gets more classes and gives more fun accordingly, i'll just play a bit of those two games soon. And decide their fate later :)

Just started playing Torchlight, and I am kind of impressed, from screencaps I knew it was candy but the equipment 9although doesn't really change characters image much) is pretty cool looking.
Even since every character has their own starting equipment, you can change the profession of the character easily by simply equipping the right stuff on them, also GUNS !
the female playable character looks awesome, and a girl needs a gun XD

the idea with the pet doing some damage and possibility of sending the pet to the town to sell your stuff = Brilliant!
Other than that most of the ideas came with Diablo2 in mind.

Nice Game, will suck me in for a while.
However i am still waiting for more ideas, I am always open for something interesting, as long as it's PC and follows the criteria in the OP.

thanks fohfoh :)

you ever play Nox?  Suppose it's a diablo clone, but Nox is my favorite Diablo-esque game I've played.

Have you played Divine Divinity? It's pretty much a completely different game from Divinity 2. Avencast: Rise of the Mage and the Gothic series are good too.

Lol, new mods are actually doing their job  :P

Havok: I feel with you, I would also like isometric RPGs with rich story and tons of customization and real "built for pc" interface. Unfourtunatly games evolved past that point, but maybe with some luck some indie developers who don't have cash for fancy graphics will take up a project like that? It doesn't hurt to hope.
For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

Playing torchfire is like playing D2LOD again, but without memory of the story that goes with it.

+ Eyecandy.

The Isometric point of view in NOX is not diabloesque at all, screenshots make my eyes hurt. Too bright and dimensions are all wrong, but visually it does resemble Diablo 1 indeed.

Divine Divinity was an interesting game, I played it for a while, I have no memory of why I stopped playing it, probably passed the game without the interest of playing again, I even have the original copy of it with the expansion (3,50 eu at my store, why not heheh) so I guess after completing the game I just didn't want to play it again.

@Acehigh
It isn't the problem of games evolving past the PC interface, although I have a feeling you have been fairly sarcastic about that comment, as I think it is the fault of consoles needing dumbed down interface for almost all games that come out multi platform.

Torchfire Sucking me in lol. I found an annoying quirk in it though. I had my vanquisher on lvl 15, and decided to play a new character, now I have to get my girl back up :P the game overwritten the save file :P

But it's eyecandy indeed.
Thought the pet 2 spells, Heal Other2 and Fireball. I don't need anything else not lol :D
It's interesting how the equipment works, you need your defense stat increased to receive less damage and armor just makes you look cuter. My girl found the Gunslinger Hat and Gunslinger Vest, looking awesome :D

Just need some more equipment in Gunslinger mode and gonna rock the house :D

Elder Scrolls series of games?

I have 'Elder Scrolls III: Tribunal' and while it didn't suck me in like some games, it may be what you are looking for.

Also, +1 for Never Winter Nights.

Tribunal didn't work on me.

I'm being sucked by Torchlight lol

At any rate, I am not giving up on Daggerfall yet, Need to make it work with that PC emulator, doesn't seem to want to work lol :D
