Help a newbie out
« on: September 02, 2011, 05:10:25 AM »
Ok so I'm in warning and I went ahead and read the Wiki. I came across this:

Quote
I got warned, I have no files so I can't seed or download. Woe is me
BakaBT is not the only source of downloadable anime. Try the sources listed above. You'll be surprised at how much stuff is available outside of BakaBT. Download something that's recent and in demand, and seed it here to fix your ratio. You can organize the browse list by leechers to see what is in demand. Downloading the files for offers that will be approved soon and seeding those is also a good way to fix your ratio.

If I downloaded a torrent not from Bakabt, how do I know if I'm seeding it back here? The answer is probably painfully obvious for you long time members, so please don't barrage me with insults  :-X

You are able to DL the torrent elsewhere, but you are going to wanna download the torrent from here (just the torrent file. not the show/movie,) recheck it to be sure its the same, then be sure that the only tracker on it is BBT.

.
Make sure the torrent(s) you got/get from somewhere else are an exact match for the torrent(s) you want to seed here (check group, filename, filesize, hash, etc.).   Don't know what client you have, but you'll want to make sure that torrent is in its seeding directory, and you then download the *.torrent file from here (with your key in it).  When you add the bakaBT *.torrent file to your client, it should check the existing torrent files in your directory, then begin seeding.  It's best if all the other tracker (from not-bakaBT) information is not in your torrent client; configure it with only the tracker info for bakaBT.

1.3 Re-seeding Downloaded Files with Different Clients

You can Search and browse this Help sub-forum, and the sub-sub-forum for Torrents/Tracker Issues for similar topics.  There are quite a few and, with a little reading through them (skim about the last five to ten pages for topic matches), you'll see quite a lot of advice and other helpful tips already provided to other folks in your exact situation.
I win, once again, in my never-ending struggle against victory.

Alright thanks for the help guys! Should've read that wiki earlier. My bad. Hopefully I can get rid of that warning soon and contribute to this site  ;D

You'll want to edit the trackers of any existing torrent to remove all non-BakaBT trackers, after you add BakaBT.  To be specific, when you d/l the .torrent file from BakaBT that matches one that's already in your queue, your BT client will ask if you want to add BakaBT as a tracker; do so, then remove all the others (including DHT).  Tghis does not, of course, apply to content that is NOT in your queue still from when you downloaded the content.
