English way sounds stupid. Putting surname before first name is a cultural thing, and tells a lot about Japanese culture.
There are to ways for translation, liberal and literal.
I prefer literal by all means.

Well yeah i do agree with your point as same is the case here. Putting Surname before first name.
But taking the literal translation or the liberal one is upto a person and it obviously varies. I too prefer literal translations but well i guess i am at fault for ignoring that aspect. But i am NOT a fool for it. :)

Outside of Japan, formally, it doesn't matter if name is before surname, but in Japan, it's important.
