Lord of Fire:

English way sounds stupid. Putting surname before first name is a cultural thing, and tells a lot about Japanese culture.

Strongly disagree. I prefer using western name order whenever I can, coz it just sounds more natural. I don't care if it's a culture thing, they're doing it wrong, so my mind flips the order back the way it should.
--- Quote ---There are to ways for translation, liberal and literal.
I prefer literal by all means.
--- End quote ---
I prefer somewhere in between. Too literal is often stiff and can look stupid (ex: translating honorifics or using 'big brother' each time 'onii-chan' is said), while too liberal can destroy a lot of in-jokes or cultural references.
Nodame-chan:
I certainly don't like when they translate onii-chan, or suffixes, etc etc. It's Japanese, they must keep the atmosphere.
Havoc10K:
I prefer honorifics intact as well.
Lazy translators.
Nodame-chan:
Oh and the thing I hate the most is when for example somebody says "Okazaki" but the subs say "Tomoya". WTF?!
1000mAh:
^ I was wondering or a while that was I reading the right topic....
but yeah, I prefer the honorifics intact as well....
wasn't here a topic while back about this honorifics stuff, I think it was over a year ago though.
