well I do understand you wanting to defend her. She is cute by your standards ( I think) :D
But I have to disagree about how you defend her as :
(click to show/hide)

I think you're not seeing things the way you should.

(click to show/hide)

I'm not saying that she is weak (have no idea about that), I am saying that the way she is shown lack depth and her anime character lack streight as a character not as a her own character...well then again she simply have no character beside the cuteness intended for fan service....
Sure she is traumatized, or at least she should be, but the way anime (haven't read manga and do not intend to) shown her up to ep 2 is sooooooo weak that nothing of her story shows up in her character its just a story.

I am starting to suspect that anime makers no longer consider character characters (now that's found funny) to be important. Even with a good story anime still feels shallow and boring and "cheep".  So stop defending no character characters in anime!!!!

Stop blaming anime producers for 'lack of character'. The anime is closely following the manga (even expands a bit on it – for now anyway), so if you truly feel the need to blame someone, blame the mangaka. However, I advise you to wait with your final judgment till you've seen more of the show, as Rea's zombification completely changes things around (and for the better).

I will be precise and blame manga then, thou it usually comes out that anime ruins the manga by not realizing the depth of manga, just as movies ruin books. Haven't read any manga in a while and do not intend to read this one. If I read manga its horror manga, a proper horror manga not cuteness based crap.

Sorry if you got tricked into watching this if you thought because it had some dark themes it would be seinen.  Unfortunately, his show is decidedly shounen.  Wanko and Sanka Rea will exist first and foremost as objects of possible affection for Furuya, as all women in shounen romances do.  These two will continue to fawn over Furuya throughout the rest of the anime, and it will be central to the plot.  If that doesn't appeal to you, you should probably drop it now.

That being said, this show sets itself apart from most shounen-crap by actually having a central plot to be developed.  There is a great deal of focus (even greater than the focus on the romance budding between Furuya and Sanka Rea) on the zombie condition, the source of the formula Furuya used, and the connection between the zombie condition and Furuya's past.

Yet, all of that is quite intentional, as it helps build what's yet to come.

The whole point of these first three episodes are to introduce us to the characters and explaining how Rea ends up becoming a zombie (which I don't think anyone didn't expect). All subsequent episodes will show us Rea's transformation and what being a zombie is really like. And as said, Ranko is obviously the secondary love interest, whom Chihiro doesn't give two shits about, but is there to 'spice things up'. If you ask me, if anyone is going to a forgettable character, it will be her, not Rea.

If the words of the mangaka are anything to go by, he'll try anything he can to make sure the anime is going the way he wants it to (i.e. following the manga as closely as possible, with only some minor stuff added to make the story more coherent). So, if you're worried that this show will miss the subtleties and depth the original source has, I think it'll be fine.

BTW, this is NOT, I repeat, NOT a horror story. It's a romantic comedy, so if that alone puts you off, you might want to get of here and find something else to watch.

I wonder if I'm correct with this guess but isn't he attracted to that place because he got raised there ?
I mean, those plants grow all around the area but he ran off to that place of all places.

I can't remember if they ever mention that in the manga. I personally think it's because they grow in huge abundance there, but I could be wrong.

@   SeventyX7 - I was not tricked or anothing, I was in mood to watch something easy going and simple, I was not expecting lack of character :) that's all

@  Lord of Fire - how there can be a change if there is nothing to change? one can not change the story only the character and she does not have one. Even cute anime girls can have a characters, at least they used to have one.....

I might keep on watching anime just because of that cat......... :D

...Yet. Or rather, she does, but it's suppressed right now. Her father prevented her from showing any personality, but now that she's a zombie, that's going to change.

One thing is certain: I think it'll be hard to imagine that the Rea we'll see at the end of the show is the same one that we've seen so far. She will change, though it's up to you to decide if that's a good change or bad one.

so what you mean to say - she will finally have a character.......
