utorrent: No Incoming Connections
« on: September 07, 2011, 02:54:06 AM »
I'm running utorrent on a Mac OS X and trying to seed a collection I downloaded earlier. I added utorrent to my firewall exceptions but the icon in the lower right corner is stuck at yellow and says "No Incoming Connections-There may be a problem with your network." It's a shaky connection that usually bounces around from 3 bars to one, occasionally dropping off altogether. Is the connection the problem here? I'm really not sure how to fix this. The closest I can find to Network options is the Network Utility which makes absolutely no sense to me at all. Any suggestions?

Are you sure you're using a whitelisted version of uTorrent?

It's utorrent v. 1.0.3. Could that be a problem? This version wasn't on that specific list, but it lists bakabt as a tracker. Would that even be possible if it wasn't?

The fact that you downloaded anything with that client means that it is allowed. You wouldnt have been able to download otherwise.
You might consider changing your port number. I am not sure if it will do any good, but I had a similar issue a while ago where I had the warning thing at the bttom of the client all the time, and it disapeared after changing the port.

Also- What does it say under the tracker tab for your BakaBT torrents? If the torrent is working, it should say "working" under the status portion. IF it is not working, it will say something along the line of "refused for whatever reason."

It's the connection perhaps. what connection is this? University? they may be blocking ports or something.
I doubt this could be a peerblock/antivirus blocking connections. i don't think there are equivalents for both
in mac. :-\

Have you made sure to forward the port uTorrent is using on your router? Not doing port forwarding is the most common reason for having no incoming connections. That or there's just nobody to connect to you.

The tracker is listed as working.
I tried randomizing the port and I only lost all my seeders. Can't seem to get them back now...
I'm using Airport (def. network for mac)
I assume if I tried to replace this version with one that is officially on the whitelist I would loose all progress on these torrents :-\

If the tracker is listed as 'working' then the version you have is officially on the whitelist, so no need to download a newer version. Although, if you did decide to, you shouldn't lose any progress on your torrents at all.

Anyway, turn off randomised ports (set it so it stays the same all the time, it doesn't really matter what port number you use), then go to your router's configuration page and forward that port number - that should fix the issue, hopefully. You can find instructions on how to do port forwarding here.
