Looking to buy a Tablet?
« on: September 07, 2011, 03:39:34 PM »
So I want to buy a tablet.
Something I can take in with me into lecture and carry with me on the go.

But the question is which on?

Ipad? But that usually has restrictions on them plus no USB support.
Samsung galaxy tab 10.1? or the 8.9 that will be released?

If not those would you recommend any others?

Thanks.

A friend of mine bought an iPad and he was furious, said something like "This stupid piece of shit doesn't support flash... everything on the internet is flash based nowadays". I told him that he could jailbreak it, but e refused that on the principle and returned the thing back in the store where he bought it  ;D

I would ask you: do you really need a tablet which is touch screen and that's it? Or is any mini ultra portable laptop sufficient?

If the suggested netbook is too big, consider buying Fujitsu U810 or U820 (maybe there are newer models now). Those are tiny, but still have a x86 CPU and a keyboard which is better than typing long emails etc by poking the screen. They have a touchscreen and it is possible to fold them so they make a (thick) tablet.

nah I don't need a keyboard.

I've had laptops and PC's I want to try it out seeing as these tablets have gotten better since the first generation.
I can pretty much do everything on my iPhone.
But my iphone is too small to work on or read from.

That's why I want a tablet for; uni work, reading, viewing manga, and be on the go or be in bed.

If by best you mean overpriced while decent. Then yes.

Alot of the reviews are all saying the iPAD 2 is the best one. And the sumsung tab 10.1 comes close.

Well, I've tried it, but the hardware itself is now getting very hard to find.

Sometime in the next two weeks HP is putting them back up for sale on there website. You can still get one on ebay for like around 200$ which is still the cheapest option. Until the amazonkindle comes rumored to be priced at 250$

It's also $500-$600. The price of a lower high-end computer... with 6-cores, the latest graphics card, and 6 GBs of memory.

Go with something cheaper and actually supports flash (why Apple and Steve Jobs ever thought Flash was trash is on fucking dope).

You can't get a computer with that setup for 500-600, I have that and it was 3000 +

Flash benefits the consumer more then Apple. Free videos etc is not something they're into.

It would be hard if you need everything at that price.  But you could easily get everything for 700-800.

no flash support is what makes the ipad high tech overpriced garbage but, just puting a i in front of it gets morons buying it.

Totoya-kun, I think Jobs has brainwashed you. Sometimes things can be good and cheap...but it can't also be Apple.

As for the iPad 2, I've used iPad 1 and 2, as well as an acer Iconia. Iconia is cheaper, nicer looking, and more functional. Its heavier, but the newer Droid tablets are actually lighter then the iPad 2. Who would guess when there is competition, products will be better. Apple doesn't need to content with the competition because people by their crap because they buy Apple for whatever reason other than its a good buy (although OS X is better than Windows, their computers are over priced and you can instal Linux on a PC.

Firstly how is OS X better then windows and what's is good about Linux?
What are the good things about the iPad 2?
The other tablet that matches up to it is the samsung tab 10.1 in reviews, what do you have to say for that and in terms of tab what is the best software and why?
Thanks.

You mean iOS?

Some tablets support windows 7
Some are android
iPad only uses iOS IIRC.
This is your home now. So take advantage of everything here, except me.

I would beg to differ:
CPU
6 GBs of Memory
PSU
ATI 6850 Videocard
Motherboard
1 TB harddrive
Computer Case
DVD Drive

Grand total? $580 with shipping included. :P

So either you paid too much, or your system is not "lower" high-end like I mentioned. Don't buy a tablet, buy a PC.

a tablet is a tablet if you are going to be using it for taking notes and light use go with the cheapest option out there. They all browse the web, they all take notes and they all have apps. Its just down to nit picking which one you like best be it has lots of apps like the ipad, open like an android, or just plain cheap like the touchpad.

But if you are really looking to drop a chunk of change upwards of 500$ Go with one of the higher end ultra portable laptops or drop some more money and go with a series 9 samsung
