Yeah, you're right.  I completely fucked up on that.  Had the 14 years in my mind, either hallucinated it or it was from a different detail in the plot.  On my second watch-through, using the unaltered CR subs, I skipped the opening and thus missed the re-enforcement of the 26 year time frame.  Which could still place Mei as Kouichi's aunt ... the scene with the grandfather at the family shrine still seems to be a tie-in.

Time will tell ...

I think his grandfather does mourn Mei, but I'm not sure for that.
I'm fairly sure a lot of people mourn her still, as she seemed to be some sort of fantastic person, I have a few hunches where this will go, but I'm not sharing.
All I can say at this point is that the first half of the show will blow the minds of ours away, and the second will just fuck us hard, that is, if my hunch is correct. Which rarely is wrong :)

The fact however remains that time seemed to pass rather fast while watching the first episode, I thought that it passed in around 10-15 mins and it was full 25 mins, that alone says how interesting it was.
That or Prof. Fornsworth messed with chromatons again (Futurama).

Anyway, interesting first episode. OP sucks, ED isn't really all that interesting to me either, but the rest of the series could make up for those with ease, if done right.

Ah, you're right. I didn't even notice that. I guess that discredits my theory that his grandma has something major to do with the girl 26 years ago, then.

I agree. Another great episode for the start of this one. And as far as the eyepatch goes, I'd rather be suprised than guess. Although it is hard to suprise me anymore.
