Damn this series is creepy. And I love every second of it. I've always had a mild fear of creepy dolls, so that in particular really hits home with me. The atmosphere is amazing though! The music, the lighting, the voices are perfect, especially Mei's. Ready for moreeeee!

A cliffhanger is when a major scene and action are postponed to another episode in this case. In Another, ep2, we just want to know what she will show behind the eye patch since we suspect a thing or two about her.

I would say, cliffhanger is used then when the episode ends in really interesting spot and you just get angry because you have to wait for another week to know what happens.

Out of curiosity, when you post your comments, reactions, please mention which encodes/subs you're watching?  And, maybe a thumbs up or down how happy you are with.  Not asking for comparisons (unless you want to) ... just interested if there's a different subjective experience.

Given time, I plan to start w/ Ep. 01 and watch through Ep. 02 in the middle of the night to try and get the best mood out of it.  Sounds damned tasty so far & looking forward to it!

P. good so far. It kind of reminds me of Higurashi in a way, as a lot of people are concerned if Kouichi ever lived there; like there is some big secret being kept hidden. Also, can people see Mei? I can't tell if people can see her and they just ignore her, or if Kouichi is the only one who can see her.

It's almost as if only certain people can see her... Like the woman in the hospital said she didn't see her but it almost seems as if the students and the creepy librarian dude can. Can't wait to see where this goes.

I'm pretty sure he and certain few can see her, but highly unlikely class 3 can. After all, according to the description, it all started with everyone acting as if she was still alive 26 years ago. Far as I understand the way curses and grudges work, this all could have manifested into Mei actually being there, but only certain few being able to see her. Likely it has something to do with his mother's death. There is also the way they show the title of the anime in a suggestive way so to say. Almost like implying this HAS something to do with his mother.

Just might be my imagination though.

That seems plausible. Especially because "she died right after childbirth" sounds way too suspicious.

I have a feeling this'll compete with Higurashi for my favourite horror/mystery anime. (Although Rika will still be my favourite character )

Yes, in Anime. In real world, it's rather suspicious these days, unless in India, death by Labor is common, then I withdraw my case. But in case of this show it's super suspicious since she gave birth in this village and died right after giving birth. And she also was in this "cursed" class 3.

Most Asian and African countries have higher maternal mortality rates than the rest of the world. I remember reading Japan has a 6:100,000 maternal mortality ratio (it was about 200:100000 in 1950, which is about as bad as african countries), in which case I wouldn't call this suspicious at all.

EDIT: after more research, maternal mortality in Russia is 28:100000 and USA has 11:100000. So you really can't call it suspicious in any countries except maybe the best, like Canada or western Europe.

Another takes place in the 1990s, when the rate in Japan was more than 10.

I could expect that ratio in China/North Korea and some other less developed countries (africa is pretty bad which will hopefully improve with years) But seeing Japan there did surprise me. How accurate is that data of yours ? and when was the last check done ?

[ EDIOT: ohschitz ... the reason I was replying: @froody, just curious if you have links where you got those stats.  10:100,000 sounds shocking, but is still only 0.01%, which is quite low per medical conditions.  Death in childbirth is total statistics, and is often tied to other medical conditions and circumstances.  For a healthy mother, the numbers are probably ~1/100th of that, or less. ]
