Dude! wheres my application?
« on: September 09, 2011, 09:36:44 PM »
so I just updated Heroes of Newerth and ever since I cant play :(

my other player-friends didnt have a problem at all. But now whenever I start HoN nothing happens! only the process starts showing in the taskmanager process tab (not in applications), I tried running in compatibility mode and tried about anything you can do in the "properties" tab by rigth clicking on hon.exe. . .but nothing!

reinstalled old version and it worked, updated and its gone again!
uninstalled (wiped registry values and erased everything I could find) and installed again the newest version directly (so I wouldnt update) and still the same shit!!!

WTF BRO!!!

I know this has happened to me before with other programs (that only the process appears but the program doesn't start)

so, anyone has any suggestions on how to go about it?

You should take this as a sign to start playing DotA instead. ^^

@OP
you're missing quite a few things, fill these up:

OS
Computer Specs
Anti-Virus
How'd you solve the "other programs that went like this"
which HoN to be precise? theres Garena and S2Games

PS: this aint tech support, plus we aint HoN tech support, try asking on S2Games forums.

What's with all these games? First Demigod came out, nice clone but devoid of content. Now we have League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth out both being so cloned that in LoL even the map is the DOTA map.

Demigod played like a fun, if featureless game. LoL plays like a different and less entertaining copy of DotA. HoN is so similar to DotA that some heroes are pretty much exactly the same ones.

Come on! Those are minor details! It's the same map: river going down from upper left to bottom right corner and three lanes, one through the middle and the other two on the "flanks".

Speaking of heroes, IMO LoL wins that contest for only one reason: Annie

As for maps, I would say Demigod is the coolest one, because some of those maps were truly beautiful.

Demigods problem was that it lacked direction. It was too streamlined, generating extra gold was too hard. Making heroes that can kill other heroes the best ones instead of pushing heroes. The maps were fun though, I'll agree with that. Balance suffered due to the large amount of maps, some heroes just being better.

*Cough*Regulus*cough*

Seriously that guy was OP. Does your enemy teleport to his base? activate sniper shot on him and by the time Regulus aims in, your enemy is in his base already... ofcourse the damage of sniper shot is bigger, the greater the range is. So getting shot from across the map because you teleported to base, will insta kill you  ;D

I already sent an email to S2, and as mentioned it isnt necesarily with HoN, it know its happened in other programs when i had XP,Vista (i now run on 7 and havent had this problem) and since I know its not a "hon-only" problem Im asking "generally" if you guys have had this problem how you solved it?

I personally dont remember how I solved it (or if i solved it)

Windows 7 x64
Geforce GTX9800+
intel core2quad @ 2.4 Ghz
4 GB DDR2 RAM

Avast Antivirus

^ which Win7 to be precise? pro or home? maybe those cracked ultimate?
cracked version of some OS sometimes got some crack in the head too, viruses even. (a bad pun...)

well personally it would happen on me once or twice in a week, i`d just end task it and reopen the file, it`ll then work.

try this trick:
properties the main exe for the game
on general tab, uncheck "read-only" and "hidden"
on compatibility tab, uncheck everything except "run this program as an administrator"
on security tab, edit "everyone" and tick "full control [allow]" (sometimes its grayed out, meaning theres a settings on your control panel limiting your access)

and done.

the reason for this one is that those checkboxes might be restricting the file and/or it failed to update because the checkboxes does not allow it to be modified.

do you have any virtual drives installed? daemon tools, etc?

uninstall all of those and remove any stray registry entries.

I don't know if the game uses some sort of copy protection but there are some that check for installations of virtual drives.
