What's the memory usage of something like that? My P4 keeps going belly up with mkv. MPC and Zoom are failing hardcore. WMV is winning but teh shittay for mem usage, VLC is the only thing that "works". <_<

about 300MB, well memory isnt the issue here it seems, rather its CPU power, i`m hitting 40% when i use MPC-HC's embedded decoder without madVR, hitting 80% with MadVR.
i ditched CCCP video decoder >:( still using audio decoder though.
ah, have a rig E3300 overclocked to 3.3Ghz if that matters. its a wolfdale celeron.

Madvr is a renderer.
And almost everything free under the sun is ffmpeg-based.

Zoom player doesn't show an image.
MPC shows broken frames but also sounds like the sound is coming out of an air craft carrier.
Though it probably makes more sense just to upgrade rather than keep using the old P4. Fileserver might be the option... HP prebuilts are bottoming out in price. A new HTPC might be had for 300-400 for black friday or boxing day...
