Can control the smoothness so to speak.  What to interpolate and what to skip.  Modifying the scripts to your liking.  I'm guessing that Splash player is being conservative, especially with it's low CPU utilization...then again you are using an I7.

But it does vary depending on the animation.  Like with much of the animation made today that is computer assisted, filling the extra frames works great.  What they improve in all is panning.

btw, the two links I shown earlier are really small.  So check them out.  It plays instead of downloading with my browser.

I'm considering picking up an HP prebuilt for 900CAD.
i7
dedicated graphics
etc.

I mainly stream and/or play dled anime. The wifi module in this thing would be great for using as an HTPC too. Which would be the main use of this comp.

Or... for 400 bucks, I can pick up a HP prebuilt running an E3600 or whatever at 3.3Ghz.

I kinda want to build my own, but at the same time, too lazy. I'm also wary about installing a CPU chip because in the past, I killed an old P3 and a P4 chip (from old discarded comp parts, so not a monetary loss) because I put too much and then too little arctic silver.

Chips are surprisingly hardier than they used to be, but either way this bit is simple. Just make you  sure you have a thin coat - scrape of excess if you must - that covers the entirety of the chip. Hell, I used some random stuff my dad nicked from work. Some sort of copper compound, idk, looked like it'd probably work (and it did).

What model number of i7?

And as for thermal paste, grain of rice is the guiding size.

2600 I think.

Put in the time to build your own, it feels way better afterwards <3

I won't have time till late December IIRC.

But yes, but building it myself my manly e-penis would extend 18ft longer just because I could use a Lian-Li case for it. My e-penis would be the envy of all cities with flag poles. (Obviously because the length of one's e-penor is all about length and not about use.)

Hmm, seems decent. S processors are generally a bit harder to find.

Quick price estimation:
Proc: $300
Mobo: $100-150 depending on how good of a board you want
RAM: $60
HDD: $40
ODD: $20
OS: $140 or free
Graphics: $60-100? I'm not well-versed here, so that's just an educated guess
Sound: motherboard included
(that is pretty shitty Ethernet)
Card reader: $15 if not included in the case
Keyboard + mouse: $20?
PSU: $50 for a good one, $25 for a decent one
Case: Up to you?

So roughly $700 max without the OS or a case. Not too bad. And keep in mind that MemExpress has their price match policy, so if you find a cheaper price for the same product anywhere, show them and they'll beat it by 25% of the difference.

Based on your numbers, it's $700 sans OS. I'm missing the cost of the case as well. Though I guess with the right comparison in place, I'm still looking at about 800-1000 based on how much "upgrading" I want to do. I'd probably want to have a wifi module for it as well and the cost of arctic silver.

The problem still lies in the fact I'd have to put the thing together. Which means I'd instead likely have a stack of parts for (maybe) over a month.

Granting, building it has advantages aesthetically, cost effectiveness etc.
Main weakness being my issue with applying arctic silver (youtube can fix this), time to build (A weekend), RMA if needed (crossing fingers may deal with this)

Of course, this is based on current numbers. Black friday or Boxing day numbers would likely be different.

^ the clips is already interpolated to 60FPS, what makes the CPU drop to it's knees is the interpolating scripts.

reason for that is because those clips only needs to be decoded, while if you interpolate with a script it'll have to solve some formulas for every vectors on the film.

Yeah, I said it's roughly $700 sans OS/case in the last paragraph of my post. They're rough estimates based on the trends I've seen on parts pricing on Newegg.

You can get a decent wi-fi attachment from Newegg for about $25. Grab a Rosewill one that has good ratings.

You should be fine using the CPU's stock fan. AFAIK, all of Intel's processors come with one, and they come with thermal paste already applied. So just put it on and clip it down. I assume you won't be overclocking like an enthusiast.

If you insist on using your own paste, it's pretty easy. Just squeeze out a drop of paste the approximate size of a grain of rice onto the middle of the proc, and then push down on it the same way you'd push a piece of paper onto some glue on another piece of paper.

Can't help you with putting it together. Maybe you can pay a friend $40 to do it or something. Or, if you bring it up here, I can do that too, if you time it right.
