Put in the time to build your own, it feels way better afterwards <3

I won't have time till late December IIRC.

But yes, but building it myself my manly e-penis would extend 18ft longer just because I could use a Lian-Li case for it. My e-penis would be the envy of all cities with flag poles. (Obviously because the length of one's e-penor is all about length and not about use.)

Hmm, seems decent. S processors are generally a bit harder to find.

Quick price estimation:
Proc: $300
Mobo: $100-150 depending on how good of a board you want
RAM: $60
HDD: $40
ODD: $20
OS: $140 or free
Graphics: $60-100? I'm not well-versed here, so that's just an educated guess
Sound: motherboard included
(that is pretty shitty Ethernet)
Card reader: $15 if not included in the case
Keyboard + mouse: $20?
PSU: $50 for a good one, $25 for a decent one
Case: Up to you?

So roughly $700 max without the OS or a case. Not too bad. And keep in mind that MemExpress has their price match policy, so if you find a cheaper price for the same product anywhere, show them and they'll beat it by 25% of the difference.

Based on your numbers, it's $700 sans OS. I'm missing the cost of the case as well. Though I guess with the right comparison in place, I'm still looking at about 800-1000 based on how much "upgrading" I want to do. I'd probably want to have a wifi module for it as well and the cost of arctic silver.

The problem still lies in the fact I'd have to put the thing together. Which means I'd instead likely have a stack of parts for (maybe) over a month.

Granting, building it has advantages aesthetically, cost effectiveness etc.
Main weakness being my issue with applying arctic silver (youtube can fix this), time to build (A weekend), RMA if needed (crossing fingers may deal with this)

Of course, this is based on current numbers. Black friday or Boxing day numbers would likely be different.

But it does vary depending on the animation.  Like with much of the animation made today that is computer assisted, filling the extra frames works great.  What they improve in all is panning.

btw, the two links I shown earlier are really small.  So check them out.  It plays instead of downloading with my browser.

edit:
Here's 2 test clips I did for the PS3: (click to show/hide)http://www.fileserve.com/file/389Dstj

Both at 60fps, the first at 720p, second at 1080p.  Forgive me for using a bad source, but it's a good test to see if your media player is capable of playing 1080p @60fps without juddering.  VLC chokes on it  (Found out that the PS3 isn't able to play 1080p at 60fps; probably due to it being above the blu-ray standard).

I played the 1080p with no problems. No judders, smooth.
