Can't seem to download from Fileserver
« on: September 26, 2011, 02:43:14 PM »
Don't know a better place to put this so it ended up here.

Is anyone else having problem? I type in the human-checker, the timer counts down, then I click slower download, but then the connection times out. Its been doing this since yesterday.

Well, I have been using Fileserve for a while now, but recently (this hasn't happen to me before) I have been hitting their "daily limits". At least that is what Jdownloader is telling me. So I have to wait like 24 hours until I can download again. I think I managed to get 3 or 4 downloads done until I hit their wall.

Its probably due some daily limit but its been a long time since I used a Chrome to do any direct HTTP downloads when it comes to fileserve, so I wouldn't know what the message would look like in a browser.

Some info on their premium account:

Its been over 24 hours, yet I still get the same "connection has timed out" screen. I'm worried this is some of Comcast's treachery.

Try to run a glasnost test (Comcast, should have known lol).

Try running some of these (note: Java is needed) tests to see if you are being shaped/throttled by them.

I ran that test 3 times. My upload doesn't seem to be limited, but my download...well...

The measurement data is too noisy to detect whether your ISP rate limits your download traffic. Re-running the test while ensuring that no other downloads or uploads are running in the background might fix this problem.

In any case, I don't think it would be something general like what this is looking for as I have downloaded large files lately over the internet through channels other than FS (GOG had a sale on DnD games). Also, Media fire seems to be working fine. Only File Sever is timing out. I thought maybe someone (either Comcast or FS) are blocking specifically, but I had no reason to believe that aside from this most recent problem. Also the problem just happened. In the morning, Saturday, everything worked fine, but that afternoon it started screwing up.

Were you using your internet connection at the time of testing (I assume that you did that and tested the HTTP transfer test)? If so, don't because it will effect the results. If you have Wi-Fi, disable the wireless so that other devices don't use your connection during testing (if your Wi-Fi is open, make sure you secure it ASAP).

Or you can just try calling tech support straight up if you still can't get any FileServe downloads. I can't really think of any reason why you can't get FileServe downloads. Have you tried Jdownloader at all with Fileserve?

Another test you can do is either trying to get a VPN of sorts and trying doing a test download (hot spot shield comes to mind but I've used it to download before) or maybe call a friend to test a download for you.

I made sure that I wasn't downloading anything. I guess I just have a bad connection with Comcast's servers.

In anycase, I don't want to all Comcast. I'll try JDownloader at some point.

All right, I can understand why if you don't want to call their tech support (historically speaking from consumerist.com, they just suck). If it doesn't work with Jdownloader, again, try asking a friend to dl something from FS or better yet, if you know someone who is on the same ISP as you in your neighbourhood.

That's why I'm asking here, and didn't bother saying what I was trying to download...I can't download anything from FS at all. Nothing, no mater the extension. I haven't tried in my own neighborhood, but I thought to start here. I will ask my brother to try and download something though. He doesn't live in the same area, but he is in the same city, with the same ISP.

It starting to sound like something on Comcast's end since the disturbance for down speeds wasn't recorded properly due to a noisy line, even though your up speeds were fine with the glasnost test. Its weird how you can access other file locker sites and not FileServe. Its pretty damn suspect to me. And if Comcast is blocking full access, I think it might be some violation of Net Neutrality.

Comcast being jerks?
Some of the ISPs here do that.

Not in my case (nor yours if its carrying viruses). I tried it again in linux (the normal way), and then installed JD. Neither worked.

Virus scanners give false positives all the time. JDownloader being open source and no real virus complaints means its most likely just that, a false positive.

I know, and ESET is among the worst for false alarms, but I'd still rather be safe than sorry. More importantly thought, it still doesn't work.

What browser are you using? I've had problems before with firefox + fileserve. Turns out it was a corrupted cookie or something. Clearing the cookies and cache fixed it for me.

Forgot to mention that I already completely cleared my cookies and cache.

[edit] not only that, but I also tried it with JDownloader and with FF on a different OS.

Have you gotten contact with a friend in your area that uses the same ISP to do a test for you? Again, its starting to sound more like an ISP issue rather than something at your end.
