read my spoiler. . .I mentioned that it is most likely what you are saying (it was a misunderstanding by our main protagonist) but a part of me wishes it was the actual thing. . .

The end credits of episode 5 left it at an ominous point with Shu holding on to what might be his last opportunity to change the situation.   As for other speculations and observations, there are a bunch of potential spoilers in the archived 4chan thread discussion.  For those who don't know about the 4chan archived thread for Guilty Crown, it is at http://chanarchive.org/4chan/a/27200

To me it looked more like

I guess we can only wait and see if that is correct or something, but that would kind of explain the shape of her VOID.

Well the drama did land on him at least.

I think he is about to press the buttons.

Or they going code geass/gundam00 path : revolution -> become ruler -> become evil -> somebody kill's evil -> everybody is free and happy.

edit:
I can bet that Inori is in love with Shu. She said "Gai told me to say that" only to save him, because she knows whats going there.

With what I've seen, and from some posts here I'm beginning to wonder if...
(click to show/hide)

I ruined it for myself, by watching the OP scene over again, and getting critical that the singer and the anime were not quite what I expected, like taking big breaths to be able to belt out that much sound from a nearly chibi female character. I love the power the singer puts into that song. It just really grabs me, and says pay attention to me, RIGHT NOW!

Until episode 5, I bet a lot of people were viewing the anime from the Shu's viewpoint.  I was like that and so I automatically thought Inori's powerfully sung OP song was about her and Shu.

Watching Guilty Crown and looking forward to the next week's episode reminds me of those great days when Production I.G. was also putting out Ghost in the Shell.   I'm also looking forward to Shu pushing the buttons and releasing the negative-performance genome, bomb, or whatever else is contained inside the pen.

Too bad they'd never let him just accidently drop it somewhere. Oops. But gotta save it for when Guy really pisses him off, right?

Yes, but for one thing - the song is an Egoist song presumably created before Inori met Shu.  I think that this is the most likely timeline assumption.

I wonder if Production I.G. has licensed the clothing designs for actual clothing to be made.   I'd like one of those long black coats as rainy weather wear.

By the way, has anyone noticed that Shinbugi's face (2nd in command after Gai) has the same markings as that of a person previously infected with the Apocalypse Virus?  I thought that virus was incurable, but Shinbugi may be the exception.  I wonder if there is a story coming up for that.   This show sure has a lot of things packed into it.  It's very much unlike the cheapskate moe shows out there as watching GC again can reveal more clues and artistic details each time.

Never assume anything. It could be a song from 1/2 way into the series. It could be a tribute to Dr. Frankenstein. It could be a song about how Inori was immune to the Apocolypse virus, and her blood is a serum/ vaccine. I'm yours could imply she belongs to the entire human race, or those who need her. And you assume that she wrote the song herself. Guy might have written the lyrics for all we know. She does tend to do things as he tells her.

No one has posted anything to counter my argument that she does not exhibit much in the terms of self. So whether she is the most altruistic human alive, or just the best soldier out there is a matter of guessing right now. I'm leaning best soldier. I think she doesn't know enough about her own past to have formulated any design to living her own life, and making the choice to be altruistic.

I highly doubt it's really incurable, the virus was likely man-made, humans don't do viruses without cures anymore.
Everything simply got out of hand so it was easier to wipe cities out instead of providing cures, why waste precious money on second class citizens as well.

If it is curable, then does that make Shinbugi a passive carrier of Apocalypse?   So he is never able to travel anywhere out of the zone controlled by the United Nations' GHQ organization?    Maybe the GC world needs some muslims to take a sample of Apocalypse and spread it all over the world.  In the ensuing catastrophe, the muslims can gain control in the chaos.  Well, dunno if their current real-life approach is applicable in anime when the animes' authors won't write stories like that since they will end up like that assassinated danish author.

I honestly don't know, but I really doubt the virus is incurable really. If it was like that, wouldn't killing people make it actually worse ? The soldiers should be dripping with it by now since blood all over releases the virus.

I'm still unsure of the focus state of the Virus, is it carried by air ? water ? or what ?
