I agree, lol. I didn't like the middle a lot, I think for like 3 episodes or so. I wanted Shu to have a real backbone in the right times where he could have been during the middle of the season. It felt really "dragging" but like you said, taking everything into account things does make sense and develop uniquely.

Curious about this series now and was just wondering: which subs should I go for? From what I've seen only Commie and Doki have fully subbed the show so far.

Doki all the way. First 6 episodes are in Blu-ray from Doki as well, grab them instead of the TV version.

So. I'm watching this anime for 3 days or so, and I've watched 10 episodes so far. It has totaly enchanted me :D
And my fav char until now is Gai. He's cool, handsome, and his seiyuu *__* I adore Nakamura Yuichi)))
Edit: Ending could have been soooooooo much better. I was really disappointed :((( but still very beautiful anime, and great music. I have to give credit to that.

Soooo just marathoned this, didn't think it was all that bad at all despite the general negative gist of previous sentiments.
Highlights?
(click to show/hide)Main character did seem to develop towards the later end, he has his good points too - riding into a battle to determine the fate of the world on a glorified segway with the air of a gentleman is easily his best moment. They touched on some "Coral Island/Lord of the Flies"-esque themes too that I did appreciate. I have a feeling you're not supposed to particularly like the MC at all at certain points, that portrays him as more "human" with all his imperfections.
The same goes with Gai, his perceived (unlikeable) perfection in the second half is but a shadow to a human motive that stays true to the end, Mana.
The part about Inori having no personality? She's not human. Case closed.

My word.. the music was fantastic in this one, dunno if it's just my new headphones, but yes! And the visuals - rainbows, candy, and fields of chocolate chip unicorns to the eyes.
Plot did feel jittery to me, but it didn't feel all that detrimental as I was still absorbed.
All in all, I'm not sure how much can really fit in 22 episodes, perhaps the storytelling and character development could have flowed better if expanded over 50 episodes like a certain anime... to compare the two as they are seems unfair. One thing I can say however is the through the first 12 episodes, Gai's role made me feel like I was watching code geass through a side character's perspective; which was actually pretty interesting.

MC should sooo have disappeared as well if Inori was going to go anyway. Gief Eureka 7 ending! =(
So yeah.. hi again Bakabt.. we meet every few months when I actually say something on the forums =)
*edit* still trying to get Inori's infernal song out my head, it's great and all but ack!
