Animals have characters like people do. Some of them like strangers, some will only relax around family. You got to take care of an example of the latter.

Anyway, they usually give in. But it will take a good two weeks and that's only if you didn't piss it off. Give it food and just be in the same room.
No 2 weeks is a bit too much i'd say
it never took me more than 2 days to be on a friendly term with dogs or cats or birds(please exclude wild animals)

I seem to get along with both domestic and wild animals.

I met Oscar while I was working. I was outside collecting shopping carts when he landed on my shoulder, so I put him on my hand and took a photo.

And here's a picture of Edgar the grasshopper. I was at the beach in the water when I saw him swimming. I figured I'd help him out by putting him on my hand and taking him ashore. He wouldn't leave my hand so I ended up putting him on my shoulder while I ate my sub. Edgar was a loyal friend.

I've since lost the original photo, but here's one I pulled off my facebook.

There are actually people who scare internet away here. When ever this one dude is working - internet does not work, as son as he leaves the hotel - internet works.
Its kind of scary.....

She is "normal" as long as the owner is home, and does not assault anyone including me, so we've gone along together fine until now. It seems she has a very short memory and has forgotten all about me...

Ok I will answer you seriously now. When trying to befriend a cat be crouch and move slowly in it's direction. This way, you will give less menacing impression to the cat. Once you get close enough it's probably gonna want to smell you, when it does, stop moving and when it stops smelling you start petting it slowly and softly. It should get used to you with time.
Do not insist if the cat growls, hisses or yells. Some cats just don't like people.
That's exactly what I've done. The only time it worked without me getting a beating was when I put cat-candy in a bowl which she couldn't resist. She both smelled my finger and let me pet her at the moment, but as soon as she had finished the candy, she began hissing again.

I give up. The company is not worth the effort.

Let her be.
The flippin' cat nearly bit me. I'll do that.

I don't understand why animals keep hating me...

i suggest more usage of candy if it is cheap :D o:)
It's not...
Maybe you're like Sakaki or Medaka, they love animals, but they don't love them much.

Well, Sakaki got rewarded in the end :)

I guess it's for the best then. This cat is a jerk.  Why would you want to befriend a jerk?

So can't wait.
Wait, is that a fighting game or a jrpg? I didn't see any gameplay.

I've had numerous examples. Some took well to me within 10 minutes, some within 10 days.

Anyway, leave him alone. If you feed him and he sees you around constantly, he will come to you... eventually.

I'm taking care of a cat at the moment. The problem is that she is very shy, and the only time I see her is when I give her cat-candy. If I approach her any other time, no matter how cautiously, she literally attacks me (her scratching stings like hell). How can I make her not so frightened of me...?

...or should I just let her be during these two weeks...?
I my experience the best way to get cats to take an interest in you is to ignore them. If you pay attention to them they consider you beneath their station. If you give them the cold shoulder treatment they'll be snuggling up to you in no time.
