If you rule out language, art/music/video, and psychology, doesn't that rule out virtually the entire area of humanities anyway? :S I guess you have history, and arguably law if that counts, but I can't think of much else. Philosophy, maybe. Seems very weird to me.

Then again, American universities in general seem very weird to me. Here in the UK, you study for your degree, and that's it. So, as a Business & Japanese undergrad, I study Japanese, Japanese culture, and various business topics (operations management, human resources, etc) - and nothing else. Physics undergrads study physics. Computer Scientists study computer science. It's a much more logical system.

IIRC there's also geography, sociology (pfft), political science, some kinds of literature and niche courses; never saw law listed.
Well, the superset of courses also includes economics, but the waiting lists were always 200+ long.

Just in my particular case I hate the fact that engineers must take a humanities / social science course each semester or equivalent. All the good courses are occupied by the actual students in the relevant departments weeks beforehand. It's absolute bullshit.

Why? I thought you finally fully got to choose what to study at the University.

Because in Canada we're obsessed with making people "well rounded individuals".

I guess politics would count as humanities, true. Here economics is considered to be business, geography is more of a science (depending on the type of geography, I guess) and I'd have argued that English literature is a subset of English as a language. But I guess different universities classify things differently. Sociology is just psychology for people who can't handle psychology

And the Canadian and American systems seem pretty similar from my perspective, so meh. Canadian universities are just more reasonably priced (and thus better, IMO).

Canadian Universities tend to be better on average then American Universities, however, Ivy league schools ARE much better. If not for the education, then at least for me connections.

Lol, that's hilarious. I attend most of my classes anyway because GPA, but the fact you have to is just hilarious.

We don't have obligatory attendance in all courses, but seminars come with a rule that if you miss more than two days, you're out. Then again, we have obligatory courses (like Latin *shrugs*).

Well the MAL forums are under attack by a hacker. As far as I can tell, my account got deleted (hopefully it'll be restored in a rollback) but at least i managed to export my current list, and that's all that really matters so...

Anyways... I'm pretty sure he deleted my account because I said he wasn't a real hacker, and that he was just some laughing man wannabe.

I got visited by the beer fairy today.      Had Monday & Tuesday off, showed up to work today and a Sam Adams variety 12 pack was sitting on my desk.  I helped out another department several times over the last couple of weeks by coding some macros that enabled them to handle in only a few minutes some manual tasks that otherwise would have taken 2 people several hours a day to perform.  So the beer was a nice and much-appreciated 'thank you'.
