Nah, Japanese beer is invariably pretty sub-standard IMO. The reason is probably the fact they don't grow any decent hops over there, and tend not to import any either.

That said, I'm British, so I probably have relatively high standards compared to most of the world.

I did, I choose the line for some random reason times ago.
                        ....the line wasn't really clannad related, picked it from 1 one movie, but it reminded me of Clannad.
...and yeah, Asahi is a good beer, but I prefer Żywiec or Karhu myself (Heineken is good too, but not really my deal)
...I dare to say that Fosters is better than heineken

Ok, ok. You did say compared to the rest of "the world", which is a big place and includes places like Somalia and Congo. But if you start comparing British lagers to the rest of Europe... let's just say it's not so favourable for the island nation any more.
When it comes to stouts, the British Isles can hold their own, though.

Even if you only compare them to British lagers, Fosters and Heinekin are pretty shite (never had Millers, and not even sure it's commonly available in the UK (though we do have Coors), so can't comment there). The UK does have some pretty decent lager, though it still loses out massively to places like Germany. And most of the good British lagers tend to be German styles anyway. Agreed that Britain produces among the best stouts though (and probably best bitters and the like too - darker beers that aren't dark enough to be a stout or porter).

But why are we comparing those three to British lagers? Fosters is Australian, Heineken is Dutch (I think), and Miller is American.
