Meh. Exam tomorrow. Not sure if I'm up for it, but oh well....

What subject?
Entrance exam. Math physics and chem....
Well the point is not to be nervous, i am always nervous before exams but when they start i am ok again. My friend used to get all nervous and then fail his exams.
[18:20:14] <+kurandoinu> How surprising. A conversation with gits turned to physics. That never ever happens.

I'm watching an unusually bizarre B-movie called "She" (1982).  I really don't know how to describe this movie.

I watched part of that movie at like 3AM one time.

It might have been my unclear state of mine, but it was weird.

One of the stranger scenes was like something out of Monty Python.  The heroes approach a bridge guarded by some schmuck who was like a cross between Eric Idle and Robin Williams.  The guy starts babbling all kinds of nonsense in various accents and makes a half-hearted attempt to keep them from crossing.  One of the heroes gets annoyed and lops his arm off with his sword.  The arm morphs into another copy of the guard, and the original guard's arm grows back.  Repeat this a few times, and at one point there's a group of 8 of these guys, arms linked, kicking and dancing like they're in a chorus line.

Funniest part is that at no point were the heroes even remotely surprised or concerned that this guy was multiplying.  They were just annoyed that he was a distraction.

And naturally, the question that must be asked is, if you have sex with a copy of yourself, does it count as gay sex or masturbation?
It took an hour to write; I figured it'd take an hour to read.

Uhu. Extreme combination of selfobsession and twincest maybe?

Anyways, I'm omw to Nice in France now. Anyone been there and have some suggestions on what to do besides soaking up some sun and wine?
The problem with the world is that the intelligent  people are full of doubts, while the stupid ones are full of confidence.

And why would it even matter?

My father got married yesterday and changed his surname to that of his wife, which means I don't share the surname with any of my parents any longer (my mother changed back to her maiden name when they separated). It feels a bit weird.
That is weird. Why did he change his name...? Isn't that backwards?
Or is that sexist now?
I'd like to know why too. Did she have a nicer surname?
Well, he's always been a feminist, but I dunno. The name I have was made up three generations back for reasons I haven't been told, so at least he's got a "real" and a established one now.
...also, my (half-)siblings have yet another surname which they got from their father, so the only other person I know personally (there are others I haven't met) who shares my surname is my grandfather on my father's side, and as he doesn't look too good anymore...

Tradition dictates that the wife takes up the surname of the spouse. However, there's no such requirement. It is a bit weird however, I agree.

It's easy to explain when one marries into a foreign culture thought. I doubt I'd keep my surname if I became an expat and married abroad. After all, Žukauskas would be a tongue twister to many. And it'd be weird as fuck if I got referred to it without the proper grammar, that foreigners wouldn't get.

In Iceland, rarely do people take the last name of their spouse, male or female. This is because you take the name of your (usually) male parent and stick 'dottir' or 'son' to the end depending on your gender. Therefore a girl named Hanna Jonsdottir is, surprise, the daughter of a guy named Jon, and her brother's last name would be Jonsson.

Not surprisingly, many an Icelander has had trouble traveling abroad with their families, since usually everyone has a different last name.

(By the way, everyone's listed in the phone book by their first names... including the Prime Minister)

If my wife had a totally kickass name, I'd change mine out without a doubt

One of my teachers in high school had the surname Thunder and his wife was Tanzen which is German for dance. We all wanted them to adopt a hybrid surname and become Thunder-Tanzen.

That's not completely unique either. In slavic tradition, a trinary naming system is used and the name of the father does come into play. In my birth certificate, that was still issued in the Slavic tradition I'm referred to as Šarūnas Žukauskas son of Arvydas

I am at a point where I have no idea if I am failing or passing my written communications class. Since I don't know how the final grade will be calculated, I could either be sitting at a D, which is failing, or a C.

Right, I know it's not completely unique o: that was how people used to get their last names, either after their father or their occupation... my last name happens to be Fernandez, and that means "Son of Fernando"; somewhere up my family tree I have a Fernando, but the name just got passed down. Icelanders are just very stuck in the past >_>

I was more commenting on the fact that Icelanders don't change last names... for them, it's odd unless they live abroad and marry a foreigner. It's a cause of miscommunication there, lol. I knew a woman who was from England, but her father was Icelandic, and her last name was "Thorsson" because that was her father's last name... she got many an odd look from Icelanders because she basically referred to herself as a boy, with a girl's name. lol

Yeah, the same with all the Jönssons/Erikssons in Swedens.  ;D

Russians still use that naming system after father too, just not as a last name but as a middle name. There are the odd Finns with the middle names like that too.

Some people do take on the surname of the wife if the wife is from a blueblood family or otherwise notable.

Because we can!

I'm jealous of people with unique last names and first names. Considering the fact that I have a very common first name and last name.  ;D

I've got a special last name, as such I plan to keep mine. It's specific to only my family, no duplicates unlike almost every surname in Finland.
