Hikaru no Go. Not being a Go enthusiast or even knowing about it before I saw the series, I couldn't really enjoy it.

It's amazing how we all agree on this till this day.

Maybe because it is a textbook example of why series should stop after the main plot is resolved?

I mean I don't mind the approach of Last Exile. They finished the first series and now they made a new one with new main cast and new plot. That works in my opinion, more series should follow that example.

Last Exile only managed to save itself at ep 12 when everyone stopped angsting and actually started to talk to each other.

Angsting is one of many annoying Japanese clichés, just like world being saved by kids or all females sounding like chipmunks. It's something you have to try hard to overlook or stop watching anime.

Hell, I actually stopped completely for the last 2 years. Only now did I get a renewed interest and started downloading new series. Usually trying to be picky too. As long as I find anime without those overused clichés, like for example Black lagoon, I will be a happy guy.

^ on Death Note they rushed the end, to the point L dies, they cover only 45% of the manga, then the fit the last 55% into 10 eps.

and I think most of the good series are 12eps - 50eps. above that, rarely.

To be fair, the manga went steeply downhill after L died. Maybe it was for the better to keep things short after that.

No, there were definitely enough drinks, and I had quite a lot of them. 2 glögg, ~2 liters beer, and an unknown quantity of shots, possibly somewhere around 10 or 12, maybe as many as 15.

It's so amazing man, the colors and stuff. And there was this unicorn, except it was black as charcoal and it was flashing multiple colors, and it had a plasma cannon. And then this tsunami of banana milkshake destroyed everything but was sucked up by the unicorn that turned into a black hole, except it was white. And then a line of totem poles walked over to the pharmacy and got converted into Tang and everyone who drank it grew 7 feet tall and turned into one of the colors of the rainbow. And then the spirit of the sea rose out of the water and indulged in an orgy with a blue whale, the entire thing was only visible with IR goggles, and their orgasms were black light. Suddenly everything flipped upside down and all the colors inverted and a bunch of water-guns marched down the yellow brick road and gradually turned to neon green rusty powder.
And then the beach balls.

well, yeah, but at the moment when L died, A) they continue like they did in the manga or B) find a way to wrap it up and we all know what kind of responce it could have received if Light would have won, the parents aren't happy

but unlike the anime, manga is interesting even after L's death. But it does go downhill.

Really? Code Geass, Gundam, etc are all popular, long(-er than 24 episodes) animes. I'd say 50 episode if you have a really good plot which will go on for a long time like Code Geass.
