Does anyone know whether it's possible to use a phone bought in the UK in Japan? Some people say you can just plug in a Japanese sim card and it'll work fine, but some people say it will not work at all, even with a Jap sim card. I can't find any clear answer. =/

It's still over a year until I go to Japan, but I'm vaguely considering getting a new phone soonish, and I don't want to waste my money if I'm then not going to be able to use it for a year while I'm over there.

Remove SimLock, and have fun.

If I was going to France, or Germany, or somewhere, then yeah, it would be as simple as that. But a lot of people seem think that's not the case for travelling to Japan (and presumably similar East Asian countries like South Korea), and I can't find anyone who actually knows for sure.

You may want to check with your service provider. My phone will work most anywhere but japan.

Ah, thank you very much for that link, it was very helpful. It sounds as though, so long as the phone supports 3G UMTS 2100 MHz or 3G CDMA2000 800 MHz networks, it should be able to connect to Japanese networks, with the right simcard. A bit of Googling, and it seems as though my HTC Desire can do that, so I should be fine. Thanks!

Me? I'm from the UK, not Australia. Also, I only have an HTC Desire, not a Desire HD, or Desire S, or Desire Z, or whatever other more recent ones there are, so my specs are different to what's listed there. Though I suppose, since HTC is a Chinese country, it's to be expected that their phones are designed with the East Asian market in mind as well.

Anyway, it seems that even if my phone doesn't automatically switch to the Japanese frequencies, I can access some hidden phone settings (by dialing *#*#4636#*#*) and force it to switch modes. There's even a JPN mode with the right frequencies preset. So it looks like all I need to do is get my phone unlocked, so it can be used with any carrier, then buy a Japanese sim when I get over there, and I'll be sorted.

Today I spend 2-3 h listening to seminar on cooking (damn I hate cooking) in Turkish. Most words that I understood was molecular cooking, yes, no, ok, kitchen, pica, ravioli, pasta.
I mean, ok, lets talk about cooking even in a language I do not understand, but lets not make a big deal of making food look like it is a peace of art.
I do not go to museum and say - YES, THIS PAINTING/SCULPTURE, LOOKS LIKE I WANT TO EAT IT.  I mean - whats the fu**ing point of making food looks like an art IF I DO NOT WANT TO EAT IT. I understand cooks have their competitions and so on and food should not look a sh*t on a plate, but I do not need a darn painting on my plate with nothing to eat or what ever.
I must agree to people saying that most of humanity is overfed (not because they are fat), we just look for some crazy food to eat.

How many of you have gone to museum and decided that painting is something you would want to eat?

I'm checking minus as well, but it's giving me 403 sometimes, or can't access it at all, so it's generally a slutty host for now, I have time so I will look at many more hosts.

I'm still waiting for imageshack response to my email, takes them a long time to react as usual. Last time it was 7 days.

Well, I'm in the middle of downloading the images I uploaded and considering it's 1524 files, it's a long walk

Have you guys watched Blood+? I got about 37 episodes into it before my External Hard drive broke, and I gotta say, it was pretty decent. It was easy to watch. Usually I take breaks in between episodes of series, but I watched 37 episodes of Blood+ before I even realized I made it passed the 10th episode mark.

I watched it back when SHS was still an active group. And yeah, it is pretty good. You really should watch the rest of it as well.
