Don't worry, we've got the same problem when talking with a French from France or an English speaker.

A trick question I like to ask my Quebecois friends is " How do you say "'ananas" in English? Is it "anana" or "ananas"?" The right answer is "pineapple".  ;D

Did you know that literally dozens of Indo-European descended languages have some variation of 'ananas' or 'anana' and English is the only one to use something as outlandish as 'pineapple'?

"ananas" confused me when I first learned foods in french class. I kept thinking of bananas. Though "banane" is still close as hell to it.

In French, Computer is "Ordinateur". It used to be called "computateur" but then som guy said it did more then compute, it also put things in order and so they changed the French name, or at least that's the official version. It might also have something to do with the awardness of calling something "con-pute-ateur"( lit. moron-bitch-ateur).

olololo0lolo why is that?

probably because the word for pear ("poire") is similar to "poivron"

In Hindi, it's mostly just called computer, but the language authorities decided that the proper word would be 'sanganak', which means 'counting machine'.
The correct word for 'computing machine' would be 'parikalak' but nobody uses that.
