Surprisingly enough, the EU/Our Government. I'm majoring in a highly specialised field that both parties consider to be exceptionally perspective and are investing in us directly.

I'm glad my tuition was comped as well, but I have a feeling my potential children and grand children will have some seriously difficult choices to make.

Dead serious.

Reason being Germany (or rather some parts of Germany) didn't introduce tuition fees until 2007, going to university was free here and is still in some parts of the country (unless you go to a private university).

Well, the increase was 200% to 300% depending a bit on location. It used to be that you paid a relatively small sum for which you got additional benefits, like a ticket that allows you to use all regional public transport. The use of that money was highly transparent, you knew down to the last cent how much you had to pay for what exactly. Then the additional "up to 500€" were slapped on and they were supposed to "improve the learning conditions" and definitely not be used for maintaining the buildings or paying the bills or anything like that. The nebulous term coupled with the even more opaque ways in which the money was used, sometimes not used at all but simply left sloshing around in the budget, and sometimes used to make up for money that had previously been "reallocated" to things like maintaining the buildings or paying the bills... well, people do get pissed off about things like that. Also consider that around the same time an internationally highly renowned university system was "streamlined" to produce stressed out graduates who never had time to look beyond the next test and are hardly more qualified than college graduates, and you can see why things got a little heated. Unfortunately they didn't get nearly heated enough.

Don't rich people pay less tax in the US? or is it just where I am? At least I know I'm always hearing people bitch about richbpeople not Paying their share of taxes.
Rich people pay less tax in every country, because they pay the same percentage of tax as the common folk, which is around 20-25%, for a common person,, that's a lot coming from your pay, the rich even after paying 20-25% still has a shit ton of cash to go around his business.

They make money on the common people anyways.

In the States, and in Canada, that's not how it works. It's a progressive system, the more you make the higher taxes you pay until you top out at around 50%. The point however, is that the richer you are the more you can avoid paying taxes by finding people to legally, or illegally depending on how doom-sayer you wish to be, find ways around it.

I'm not sure about any where else, but anywhere with a progressive system will be rather similar.

I'm gunna leave you anyway.

Taxes are around 20-25%, there is also health insurance and retirement fee, so that is roughly around 40% everywhere.
But tax is 20-25% in that.

Healthcare tax is still tax.

As far as I can tell, this is only practical for usage in small scale (like LEDs) and extremely large scale (industrial machinery).

Attacking students is a safe bet, few actually vote - and there is a larger population of older voters who grew up in a period where university and college educations were unnecessary and relatively scarce. These people seem more than willing to throw someone's kid under the school bus to be "fiscally responsible". At least that's how I viewed the similar politics taking place in Ontario since the 1990's.

At least that's my theory, going after post-secondary students seems to be a matter of course for governments trying to save a buck everywhere.
Historically, not in Quebec. The population has almost always sided with students every time they have gone on strike. Unfortunately, it doesn't seam to be the case right now. It's sad because next election is this autumn. If people hadn't been convinced by their rhetoric, it would probably cost the liberal party the next election.
