I never did get too into Gundam (though I enjoyed Seed a bit), but my husband loves them. What is this shipping war?
I suppose it's just another huge disagreement among the fans about which two characters should or shouldn't be a couple.
Which is a shame, a war between shipping companies with Mechas could be pretty cool. Like those space operas about post-capitalist merchant family conflicts, in the manner of renaissance Italy.
Or it could be crazy-boring.
Possibly, but Gundam as a franchise is always about large-scale conflicts ultimately over politics or the fate of humanity. They kind of had a less political theme going at the beginning of Gundam X, with vulture groups and corporations competing for power and profit, but they quickly brought in the more classical themes of geopolitical warfare.
You could include wars over trade, battles with pirates, the lives of professional mercenaries, and deeper intrigue of space colonies warring through proxies and economics. Mostly, rid the idea of ideological conflict, and you'd see something unique in the universe.
