No seriously though, hundreds of people on this forum have declared their planned journey to Japan. About 3 that I can remember actually accomplished it. Statistically she will not succeed, so we will see her again within a year.
For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

I will never go to Japan.  As much as I love manga, I'm not going to learn an entire language so I can visit the place where it was written.

I'm already studying it, so I'm good there. I'm also 16, so all I have to do is get good marks in grade 12 and apply to the foreigner universities in Tokyo. My dad already said he'd pay for everything. I'm hoping I can do it.

Not even as a tourist? Even without the whole modern Japanese visual/audio culture, I think its well worth seeing.

I'm pretty much definitely going to Japan too, unless something goes horribly wrong and I somehow fail either this year or the next year of university - which I basically cannot allow to happen at this stage. In around 1 and a third years I'll be going there as an exhange student for a year studying at some yet-to-be-decided Japanese university. I absolutely cannot wait, though I still don't feel like my Japanese will be anywhere near good enough by that point, even after another year studying it.

What do you mean "even without". That part would be the last thing I want to see in Japan. History and nature are the two reason for my travels, Japan has both. However the countries in Europe have so much of that (especially my favourite: medieval stuff), that I never get to the turn to visit countries like China or Japan.

I'm one!  Proin is another I can think of off the top of my head, but I know there are a few others.

In all seriousness, Japan was a lot of fun but intimidating at the same time.  I got a huge kick out of seeing all of the little differences between what I know from the U.S. and what I experienced in Tokyo.  I encourage everyone to travel if they can, doesn't have to be to Japan, but going somewhere that's very different from what you're accustomed to can be a great experience.  So, good luck to Nodame and anyone else who's planning to make a trip to Japan for whatever reason.

Hey, trip is simple, everyone with some cash can do that. However people who want to live in Japan for a prolonged duration... well, that is where I get to my previous post about how few people on this forum accomplished it.

Ah, OK, I gotcha.  Yeah, I guess there haven't been that many people here who've managed pull that off.  Again, Proin being the only I know of, and he was stationed there by the U.S. Navy.

I used to like medieval stuff. But the, one day, I realized I basically live next to a castle, which is next to bigger castle, in a city full of castles and just behind castle walls, there is another city with yet another castle and...

What I wanted to say, it's interesting change of pace. Europe, including Russia is still pretty similar. One style. US... Well. US doesn't really have a history. Not much to see there. No offense meant. The best trip I prolly had in my life was to Africa for over two months. It's just amazing how different the nature and architecture gets. And Sahara, that's just freaking amazing.

Would really love to take a trip to Japan and Asia overall... But it's rather... costly. Other than that, you really need just the money, they are actually letting gaijins in for quite a few years now.

The style might be similar, however cuisine is not. That is my 3rd reason to go in different countries. I would still say that there is some difference between drinking in the wine-cellar in Eger in Hungary, from going to Crimea in Ukraine to drink yourself silly on their strong pepper vodka, or going to Rovaniemi in Finland to drink some booze in sauna until you pass out from alcohol or heat (or both).

Wait, I think I just found the 4th reason to go to another country.

It's a safe bet it's of interest here.

I have (potential) plans to go there in the coming 12 months, I shall tell you if Rovaniemi > Hakaniemi, but I did like Hakaniemi...

I have too many places I want to visit. And too many plans to visit them. Taking the excerpts from my current list, I have South Africa, Cambodia, Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Peru and Siberia. On the flip side. I have visited NYC, Istanbul, Paris, Malaysia, Finland and Estonia (AceHigh, go to Tallinn, Estonia if you want history. Seriously; A Germanic country amidst Russian/Scandinavion territory with one of the most intact castles in the world in an ex-communist nation... yeah. And now it's known for having a lot of strip clubs!) in the last 15 months with tickets booked for Marrakech.

*Bolded are ones with actual dates set in pencil. There's also plans for Magaluf but they don't have any history.
** Potential plans = "we're heading to the arctic circle." Personally, I lean towards Spitsbergen but Lapland is still an option.

Outside of Canada I've been to China, Cuba, France, Iran, Jamaica, and certain parts of the North Eastern United States. France was the best experience overall because it was part of a school trip, though I didn't really get to see much of Jamaica or Iran.

If the weather is going to be so unnaturally warm here from now on, I'm thinking of saving up to rent or buy a cottage.

and certain parts of the North Eastern United States.

I do want to take a short trip to Vermont to say once and for all if there is any hope for Americans making decent cheese. Which suddenly reminds of my friend laughing and saying "I can't believe and Englishman is eating my cheese," apparently with no clue as to the innuendo implied. His cheese (lit.) was pretty good though...

I don't remember much about Vermont cheese, I recall lots and lots of maple syrup on and in things.

Wait, getting drunk in sauna in Finland untill you pass out? That doesn't sound so appealing, because when you'll wake up you'll be naked with slightly baked skin and brain damage in a crowd of fair haired people who speak in -tongues-.
