Oh, I don't smoke, as I already indicated in this thread. Some other people do, though, and after smoking they tend to smell and taste gross.

Oh but of course. I'm just rather allergic to when people have filthy friends /  partners / enemies and blame smoking for that filthiness. Some people smell like shit and I don't blame the clothes they have  :D

undetz, trying to convince someone who smokes that it actually smells is impossible. People get used to all smells.
But please, keep fighting this battle, let's see where we end up this time :)

I'm gunna leave you anyway.

I actually took elvi's statement as completely non-ironic. She admits that smoking stinks and mentions that there are other things that stink as well. Of course she's right about that, and neither fact has any impact on the other.

No. That is NOT what I said. I said that if you are filthy then you smell. If you are filthy and you smoke, you smell worse. If you smoke, no.

Does it smell? Yes, when you don't know what "change of clothes" is.
Yellow teeth? Sure... If you brush your teeth  twice a week.
Yellow fingers? Seriously? A saw this only in Dr. House and on prolly-dead hobo.

Does it smell while smoking? Well. Yeah. Why all the "smoker  haters" have to go and stand next to you when you smoke even if you are in the middle of a field in the middle of a deep wood in a middle of uninhabited area... Is the part I have not understood yet. Or why kiss people after smoking for that matter.

So... you always change your clothes and brush your teeth immediately after smoking then?

Because at the time, it was a really good idea.

Oh come on. You're doing that because it's fun to tease me, right?

Your clothes don't smell after one cigarrete unless you have a habit of breathing the smoke out under your shirt. Or unless you're in a smoking bar... at which point it doesn't matter whether you are a smoker or not.
There's also a thing called chewing gum. I didn't realize it's not vey world-wide yet. I'm sure it will get to wherever you live eventually. Once it does, try one. It's just so coooool.

Seriously, people who smell like burned cig even tho they weren't smoking in the last 10 minutes are, as I've said, filthy. It means they have the same clothes for maker knows how many days and were in dark places.

Really?

I'd say that the smell lasts for about an hour after a fag. Anyway, I suppose I got used to it when I had two smoker room mates, so it doesn't really stink to me.

Well, I guess it depends on brand and "strenght" a lot too. Some cigarretes are undetectable after few minutes, but some others... Like Marlboro, hell, that actually seems to stick to people, walls, ground, trees... Some smell real bad to me and I am a smoker.

But, despite that, I still say that when someone smells (in relation to this), it's not in the cigs, it's in the person.

Occasionally, it's the person due toe the quantity of cigs they smoke. Fabrics do like smoke, they give it big hugs.

I haven't seen a smoker smoke fags whose smell I wouldn't pick up in roughly 10 minutes. Only the "party-only" smokers smoke those.

And those Malboros seem to be the go-to fags for smokers. Hell I know a lot of people who make fags out of pipe tobacco. You can smell them a while away and all of their clothes have the smell of tobacco on them, whether they're washed or not is irrelevant to the equation. The only difference is in whether you smell smoke and shit or just smoke.

If you, however keep the daily fag count <3, I suppose the smell wouldn't really linger. But that does not go for people that smoke half a pack a day.

I just hafta wonder that why we're talkin' 'bout planets, when this is chemistry & physics class....
Because astronomy is physics.

now that I think of it, here is that thiong called astrophysics...

Planets are nice go to subject in physics classes because they work as nice examples in mechanics 101. And people prefer talking about wandering stars compared to "imagine a maseless one dimensional dot that we throw at an angle of 30 degrees".

@Seras
When someone smokes and smells, they are filthy. No matter how much they smoke. I have this approach to more things. Like sweaty smelly people. Sweating more than other people doesn't excuse smell. No matter what, noone has to smell in out parts of the world anymore while going trough the daily life.

But yeah, I'm a bit of extremist, actually quite famous for that amonth friends, heh, I hate dirty things and just as much smelly things. Especially if those things are people.

Heck, people I live with didn't knew I'm smoking and I wasn't exactly secretive about it.

@metro
But as I say to Seras. And when I say it's the person, I don't mean it's "The person due to..." I  simply mean "It. Is. The. Person."  :D

I realize I'm jumping into the middle of a conversation here, but every tobacco smoker I've ever been around always has the smell of cigarettes clinging to them for at least a few minutes after they smoke.  And the vast majority of these people aren't otherwise filthy and don't smell like anything else bad before they smoke.  Of course I have no idea what brands of cigarettes people smoke, but it's fairly easy to tell the difference between cigarettes, cigars, and pipe tobccao.

I work in a large office building, and on passing certain people in the halls, it's pretty easy to know who's been outside smoking in the last few minutes.  Heck I've been outside and caught a whiff of smoke from 50 or 100 feet away, turned around, and saw someone I didn't notice earlier standing there smoking.  Cigarette smoke can travel a bit of a distance before dissipating, and it does cling rather easily to fabric, even when people are outside smoking.  (At my office, the only smoking is allowed outside, well away from the building, at a certain designated spot.)
It took an hour to write; I figured it'd take an hour to read.

I might've worded it a bid badly back there. What I was saying is that is someone constantly smells like burned tobacco it is because of the person. Maybe it's not by normal standarts, but my standarts it's "filthy person". But as I have said, smelling it right after someone finishes is kindof... normal. It's in the part you quoted. And heck, I can smell air refresher from people who got out of car, it's normal. It disappears in matter and very few minutes. Not a good reason to generalize and direct hate beams.

And duh, I don't think I said word filthy so many times in a hour in a long time.

I've only worked at hospitals and health care facilities so perfumes or strong offensive odours are a non-issue. Granted I have to live with the smell of sterile antiseptics and heavily conditioned air all the time, but as a card carrying member of the hypochondriasis community this is nothing but sweetness and light.

I can get used to a smokers aura of rancid taint they carry around with them, but I politely look for opportunities to defenestrate myself from their abodes should I accidentally venture into one. Cologne and perfumes make me wretchedly unhappy as well. I recall vomiting during my senior prom from the culmination of scents that played havoc on my olfaction.
