Well for one, I think the education system is currently set to provide work for math teachers, because the number of people going for math is extremely low where the number of teachers is high. So they actually upped the math classes on all technical schools. Everyone is happy. Except for students. But who cares about those in schools. :D

Also, once more, what school are you doing?
I'm getting a BSc in Economics. I used to despise math, it was easy or whatever but it sucked. Then I took discrete structures. That shit is interesting, hard, but interesting. Turns out there's more to it then calculus.

I'm gunna leave you anyway.

Hey, remember "those math guys" I talked about? I'm sure they loved it too. It is, after all, very, very, very interesting  ;D
And chemistry in economy sounds a lot like what I was talking about few minutes back, hehe.

I haven't heard much about it. I just got a text from a friend being like "OMG I HATE MATE AHHHHH" and I haven't talked to her since so...not really

And I agree, school systems are broken, one size fits all is NOT a good strategy when you are talking about the future of the world, but that's sorta how it works out, isn't it?

Well naturally, all people are the same and so should all forms of education be. There are no differences and never were. Hell, lets get rid of highschools and universities alltogether, it just make people think they are better than the rest, while they are in fact the very same!

Reminds me of when I was talking to froodz earlier. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure he has to study chemistry to get into computer science (or any other engineering degree for that matter..). Rough.

Well you pretty much have to study chemistry, physics and math no matter what if you  get on non-humanist uni. Just varies how much and how long it is there. And it doesn't make sense often.

Reworded to make sense a bit, heh.

Yeah. All engineering degrees have only physics, chemistry and math in the entrance exams, and they also heavily feature in the syllabus for the first 2 years. And yeah, a person who wants to get into comp. science and, say, mechanical eng. has the exact same entrance exam.

Well you pretty much have to stody chemistry, physics and math no matter what at least somewhat technical uni you choose. Just varies how much and how long it is there. And it doesn't make sense all that often.

I guess I'm the exception to that claim. :s

Yeah, well, that's because you're 12 and elementary schools work in a bit different manner.

My computer tech degree did not require anything like that, but if I go for a bachelor's or master's then I may at least need calc 1. :/

I went through public school. I turned out not terrible so far. Then again I'm not from the states, I hear your private schools are great, public not so much.

Did you get a diploma or something? Or is school really that damn easy in the states?

Outside of the Ivy League of course.

Public schools here are much worse than yours, but private schools aren't extremely expensive.

Nope, I tested out of school at age 15 and went straight for college. Then after a few "Fun Years" I went back and thats where I am now. School is VERY easy in the states. Most highschool kids can barely do algebraic equations and write a proper paper. Most cannot spell scientific words (or even know what they mean) and chemistry is for "Nerds". It is really actually sad. :/

I tested out because I was bored and wanted some more stimulating schooling. :P

Well, at least it wasn't hard drugs. I know a few brilliant minds that decided that was more thrilling then the playful academic pursuits we call high school.

Please don't speak for all of us ;). Getting an education in the US is not easy. Maybe you should actually try getting a Bachelor's degree before making baseless claims.

Also, if school was so easy here then wouldn't those high school students that you claim can barely do algebraic equations or write papers actually be able to do those things? If it's so easy then everybody should be able to do it, right?

Difficulty is relative, just because someone finds the curriculum simple doesn't make it objectively so.

I've always found school easy, it has little to do with my native intelligence or the quality of Ontario public schools, it's a simple matter of focus and memory.

As far as math goes, it has never been particularly interesting to me. It's a means to problem solve, like writing is to communicating or driving is to getting to where you need to go.
