If you didn't have the ability to reason before uni, I feel sorry for you.  ;D

The point with education is that it's mostly a secondary gain and it's all those other things that you gain from uni that are actually useful.

Because we can!

JoonasTo:

I think I just reacted to what you said, because it sounded like you thought uni was useless, and that makes me think:
Why do you go there then?
Some of the profession are easy, built upon networks and such, but on others you really got to study.

Now, I have been a student for many years now, and I have had alot of fun, I just wish, for my own sake, that I had used some more time on studying and getting better grades:P I haven't finished my degree either, but that's because of me not knowing what to become when I grow up, and other (forced) reasons.

However, I have never have had problems finding a job, ever, because of my network and my will to work.
Just wish I had the will to finish my degree;) Next year maybe...

I never did a hard day's work in my life, and I'm seriously paying for it. At this level, it's not about memorising shit, it's about effort because most of us are roughly as capable as each other. As I'm unacquainted with this "effort" I'm starting to lag behind, for like... the first time ever. Now, I never ever stress, but this time I might take this shit seriously. sixth form isn't quite a chill as it seemed looking up from 2-4 years below.

+btw I'm probably ghoing into programming/ physics/ uni prof/ highschool teacher. It's what I'm good at. That or house husband. =/
There must a be a reason for tanking things. And all must be in certain balance.
But what that balance is, must depend only on you, nobody else.

Sorry for you, sixth-form was quite the chill for me.

I vote for house husband, that's the easiest way to get rich you know. :D

Grades are what matter the least in the end. The diploma carries some value, the network even more but no one is ever going to come and go through your grades.

And even with professions you have to study, it's mostly learned through the job in the end.
Take a case of doctors, there are people who've worked as doctors for decades and never went to uni at all. Just getting caught for simply having bad luck at some random checks and they don't have any more mistreatments than any other doctors.

Here it's quite common, especially in technical fields that you're hired straight from uni and never finish your degree.

Because we can!

Well, Im not sure what kind of work your aiming for, but in my kind of job its easier to get a GOOD job
at a decent place with good grades along with a good network. And if you move to a place where you don't have a network, its MUCH easier to find a job if you got good grades, it will atleast give you job interviews and then you can showoff your good personality.
Thinking anything else is, IMO, naive.

The problem with the world is that the intelligent  people are full of doubts, while the stupid ones are full of confidence.

Lets also not forget that to get a good stepping stone on your career, you will, more likely than not, require the recommendations of your professors. Which, as you might guess, are easier to get if you took university seriously. And if you do not require them, they tend become a nice bonus.

I honestly do not miss school.
My days at school were either boring as fuck or... even more boring. I started boycotting homework and shit in ninth grade (and still got good grades  :o). I also do not think very highly of most of my ex-schoolmates, in fact there are quite a few I truly despise.

Even today at university I ask myself: How will these people ever fit into any environment? If there are girls chatting during a seminar and when being told to calm down, they are fresh to the lecturer/professor. I wonder...

I've met people who are called "academically gifted" (which means they have the ability to cram) who are totally incapable of living a normal life. Zero cooking abilities, zero household abilities. Some of them even failed when trying to hand in an university paper.

Again, I wonder if good grades should be (or are) everything. I think you are more of a satisfied or maybe even happy person, if you are skilled at living.

I think you should be happy when you learn, and think of grades merely as objective proof of your knowledge. A secondary aspect which simply acknowledges your effort but isn't the main purpose for it --- like the high score on a video game is to actually playing the game.

If you're curious and are willing to put your heart into discovery, the amount of work involved will be insignificant to the satisfaction you'll get out of it.

True.

But our school system (or if I'm frank, I believe any school system) sadly doesn't work like that. You go there, you repeat what you're being taught and if you do so correctly, you'll get good grades.

When I was there, I felt stripped of the ability to think on my own. I doubt this should be the target of a school system. I doubt its target should be turning people, individuals, into normed pieces of machinery.

For the sake of humanity, don't be a teacher. There is enough of "Oh my, I'm so bored and I can't really do anything" teachers already. Be a house pet. Or a hobo.

I could handle being a hobo for a year as long as I had a good friend doing it with me and I had money for food and whatnot. And I would be sure to have a bag tied to a stick, otherwise its just not worth it.

I slept well, however my back aches again, like it did almost every day in the past two weeks. If it doesn't get better, I should consider visiting a physician.

Who is it who has an avatar (or so I presume) hosted on Dropbox, called "newavvy.png"? Because Avast keeps flashing up warning messages telling me it's blocked it because it's a malicious URL. Not that it seems to have caused any problems, just FYI.

On the contrary, I'm super dedicated to teaching, I love it to bits, it just pays like shit. It's like "Do I take the job I love, but is undervalued, or the one that has respect but isn't what I really enjoy?"
