D3 is something nerds have speculated about for roughly a decade. And by the looks of it, it didn't disappoint that many of them. Anyway, the whole thing will settle in two weeks. Just like it did with StarCraft.

You mean Starcraft 2? That game that everyone forgot about after like a month even though it wasn't bad?  ;D

Yes. The same will happen with D3. At the moment, I can think of 4 games that'll also get the game of the months spotlight this year. The new Assassin Creed, the new Max Payne, the New Halo, the new CoD.

It's not like this is a starved market and that gamers are picky buyers with picky tastes.

The only game I can think of that kept the spotlight for an extended period of time in recent history is WoW. I seriously can't think of anything else that'd qualify.

FFT, I somehow enjoy it much more than I enjoy any of the modern games.
Why is it that the old games are so damn much better ? I played this a dozen times, and it's not boring me at all ?
Shows how retarded modern gaming industry is huh ?
I could buy all those neat looking games without a solid gameplay or story to follow costing me more than I would like to spend on them. Or, I could play the old games that actually been done with heart ...

*goes play FFT some more*

Older games were extremely enjoyable, but to limited number of people, now (most of) the games are very limited as far as enjoyment goes, but extremely large group of people will play them anyway. Kind of "Jack of all trades, master of none" situation, there is always a bit you like, but it never goes quite so deep as you'd like it and is bundled with many features you'd rather never have.

Not much more to  add, really.

I've been doing anime character comparisons with Tyler for the past two hours. So fun.

I pity people who weren't around, old enough or interested in gaming in the 90's. A lot of masterpieces back there. When the graphics were weak, all the developers focused on the contents more. Good times. *nostalgia*

No, you are just a baby.

Reminds me of this one diagram I saw where it shows a game from back in the day and the map is FUCKING HUGE with tons of corridors and layers, now its like 5 turns and 18 cut-scenes.

I thought about it. I decided against it until I have a summer job at least. Probably won't do it until the New Year at this point.

No, it makes you compare the old to the new. When the old is better, you feel warm and fuzzy, when the new is better, you feel relieved.  :D

Well, I actually feel pissed and frustrated about the current state of industry and the big corporations buying out all the independent and good developer studios just to make them into moneymashines with bellow-average games and then dismantle them. EA is the leading force in this particular branch I'd say.

Warm and fuzzy sounded way less ranty tho. But you asked.

That I did...

Yeah EA sucks. Working for them is a bitch I hear too.
Oracle also sucks, hard. At least they stopped making games of their own, aside from sports. I think anyways. I haven't seen the Challenge everything for a while.

Oracle? Origin? But yeah, it's basically Steam, just a bit more annoying, which is quite something. Worst is, that now if you want to have riginal games, you have to have both Origin AND Steam. That's a hell lot of malware requied to run games.
I really love what EA did with C&C tho. Turning great, fun RTS into... ehm. I don't even know what the last game in the series was. FPSRPGRTS adventure Sonic the Hedgehog racing game with freaking amount of cutscenes?
And Bioware. You can feel the EA from them, more so in every game. Their only luck is that they are too big to just cut into parts and resell.
Good thing about EA is that they bring incredible amounts of money into the industry, but the bad thing is that they don't care about consequences, as long as they make certain profit. If the consequences are ruining game title with decade or more of tradition and bankrupcy of the developer... Well. So be it.

I never quite understood sport games tho. If you want to do sport, do it.
It's like those people who go to gym and run on the running mashine, even tho it's nice sunny day with ideal temperature outside and they live next to a park.

You mean a treadmill? ;)

I dunno, I've only ever enjoyed sports games with groups of people.
Bioware games have good writing, even if they're so fucking labyrinth that I never get around to finishing them.

I don't know what's the difference, so I have no idea if I mean treadmill, running mashine or elliptical machine and whatever else there is. Point is, people tend to pay decent sums of money on something they could do for free in nicer envirimoment with better air and.... such.
But why would one go running, when he/she can move from one building to another and simulate running, right?

I understand racing games and even tho I would never play it, football and such, but some of the games are nuts. I even saw a game about running. And that's it. You run. And then you run. And run some more. From time to time, you press a button to speed up. Seriously?
