Nope, not all here are anime fans.
I for one make no distinction between anime or any other cartoon.

I don't care if series/movie is live action or cartoon, if it's good it's all good. 


Oh and otaku does not necessarily mean a person obsessed with anime, you can be otaku in pretty much anything: war history, butterflies, movies etc.


And honestly, using japanese words in English is just idiotic.

The term otaku was explained to me as such: you're an otaku if your put an extraordinary amount of effort into something you love.
i.e. I'd be an anime otaku if I went to cons, if I was a NEET so I could watch more anime, etc.

It's not the derogatory nature of the word that makes me think I'm not one, it's that definition above.

Besides, I consider myself both a geek and a nerd.

Yeah. Plus, I don't like the negative connotation "obsession" has. Otakus are cool in my books. I mean, they spend their time being a part of something they love. Lots of people don't have that. In a sense, they're lucky.

I spent the entire summer of 1986 at my grandparents house, and they did not have central air, and not many fans.  Night was absolutely miserable.  They did have a pool, which was the only thing that made the time tolerable.

Or you could go and pick up shit you missed, like I did with Viewtiful Joe a couple of years ago, or more recently Silent Hill (I only ever played SH2) Still have to get around to a bunch of RPGs and stuff. Next on my list is Pikmin.

Also, being Otaku is more of a lifestyle then anything else. It comes from...I don't remember some comedy or something about loving something so much you don't leave home. My two cents.

Yeah.  Leave a window and a door open and one fan should be fine for a small room.  It's enough for me.  If you have a large room I feel no sympathy. .__.

According to this answer, some people in Japan apparently think otaku and hikikomori mean the same thing, and... Well, if there is someone who doesn't have a life, it's a hikikomori.

The implication is different I would guess. As well as the large number of people that look at both words negatively, and also things never translate quite perfectly. You should know that.

Perhaps it's that nerd is typically associated with social inability, while otaku is a culture, so friends of the same obsessions gather together. It's like how Trekkies were considered weird for outsiders, but as a group they could find friends easily.

Or maybe, the universe is actually purple and none of this makes any sense or matters.
