Only the truly horrifying shit gets dropped by me.

I'd just drop something if it's a waste of time from the start.

I've found that sometimes you need to be in the right mood to watch some anime.
Even with the ones that are really good, if you aren't in the right frame of mind/mood, it's just not going to work for you.
There have been several anime that I have tried to watch a few times before actually getting through the whole series.
surdumil:
I'm currently watching The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Maze, Ranma 1/2, and Maison Ikkoku.
I dropped Urasei Yatsura and Gintama for now. I'm in the mood for continuous stories right now, and they're just too randomly episodic. I'm sure I'll come back to them at a later time.
I had actually finished watching Maison Ikkoku, but now I'm re-watching at a more relaxed pace. The story was so good that I put in some marathon sessions to watch the last 1/3 of the series. Great, memorable ending set! Now that I'm re-watching, I'm enjoying how the characters are gradually developed, noting when significant events happen that affect later parts of the series. What a wonderful piece of work!
Maze is one of those animes that I have to be in the right mood for.
For the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, I need to be fully alert and awake. The dialog flows so fast sometimes that I miss quite a bit if my mind is drifting. Fun, interesting series, though.
Ranma 1/2 is just enjoyable so far. I'm just a few episodes in, so there's quite a bit of exposition happening.

I dropped Golden Time, because Kouko really got on my nerves with her clingy behavior and bad attempt at comedy. And also because Banri is too much of a pussy to tell her to go fuck herself and break up.
Mahou Sensou was weak from the start. I didn't like Mui or any of the other characters and I lost all motivation to watch more after 4 episodes.
And No-Rin has also worn me out. The humor isn't all that good and the main guy's childhood friend is an annoying bitch.

Ranma 1/2's pretty episodic, too.
On a random note, just make sure if you ever get to China that you avoid any hot springs...
