Besides the 20 or so airing shows that I'm watching right now, I am watching Katanagatari. I'm about half way through, I like how different it is from the typical shonen series.

That anime was pretty much venturing into hentai territory, with (not so) subtle symbolism that would make SHAFT proud.

Currently watching the hilarious, yet bizarre anime "Sakigake! Otokojuku!" (Charge! Boy's School!):

Sakigake!! Otokojuku is a parody of Japanese nationalism and machismo. Teenage delinquents built like brick shithouses enroll into an exaggerated old-fashioned school that extols the virtues of guts and battle prowess. As it goes along, Sakigake!! Otokojuku quickly becomes a more serious action series, which happens often with Shonen Jump properties (Kinnikuman and Dragon Ball, for example). And just as the original Sakigake!! Otokojuku manga resembles Tetsuo Hara’s style, the anime version has a lot of the staff that worked on FotNS. The results are as you’d expect: badass.

How do I love this anime, let me count the ways. First of all, I could take testosterone supplements for the rest of my life and never come close to possessing the characters’ gravelly baritone voices. Banjou Ginga voices an American police academy student who boxes (Ginga also voiced another 80s anime blonde you might know, Souther (from Fist of the North Star), as well as other obscure anime characters).

The baldheaded principal of the Otokojuku school, Heihachi Edajima, is voiced by none other than the recently departed Daisuke Gouri. Gouri was another FotNS alumnus, most notably voicing Uighur, warden of the Cassandra prison complex. Edajima is one of the most iconic characters in this anime, and he’s a man of few words, responding to nearly every situation by shouting “I AM THE PRINCIPAL OF OTOKOJUKU, EDAJIMA HEIHACHI,” and nothing else...

As a result of watching this show, make sure you use the line, “I AM THE PRINCIPAL OF OTOKOJUKU, EDAJIMA HEIHACHI,” every time anyone asks you a question.  It will be funny no matter what.

Said funny moments in harem anime are no longer funny after you realize every single one of them involves guy fall down, guy grope girl, girl attack guy.
Its always the same shit, different characters (and lately, less plot)
Cookie-cutter comedy sucks.

I'm currently watching Ergo Proxy...I'm not sure what my feelings on it are, but it's starting to feel like a Evangelion/Rahxephon type show and I honestly could care less for shows with philosophical undertones. I'm much more into dark stories/adventure ones, that said it kind of has those, but so did Evangelion and Rahxephon.

Right now, Death Note.   I had heard it was bad from a few people but I really don't think so.  It's actually quite clever and different.  It's intense in a different way than a lot of anime and I really dig it.

I finally got my torrent issues sorted out and really only downloaded it to seed it, but ... why not watch it while I'm at it.  I'm glad I did, it's a refreshing change.

Another anime I watched a few episodes of now is Minami-ke.  I thought it was a little boring at first, but I was watching it while I was trying to fall asleep but some of the characters really add a redeeming quality to the show.  I stayed up a bit later than I intended watching it.  Some of it is still a little dull but, that's what you would expect from the genre.  I'll probably end up watching all of that one too, I think.   I don't recall off hand how many episodes there are but I don't think there were too many so I'll burn right through it.

Oh... and Gintama... but I've watched that one before.   That's an anime I can easily watch more than once!  It took me by surprise more-so than any anime I can think of - I thought it was going to just be a bunch of toilet humor... and it is!  but it's genuinely clever when it wants to be, and when it doesn't want to be there's a reason for it.   Ya know, the action and the plot are good as well.

Yeah, I jump around a bit.
Should I be concerned that I can look in my window and see my TV on google earth's street view?  Seriously, go check out your house with it.

I finished watching Maison Ikkoku for the third time straight.  What a masterpiece!

I was at a loss to find something that I could follow it up with, then came upon
Gingitsune which I am in the middle of right now.
It's so good that I've been compelled to watch multiple episodes at a spell.  Beautiful, touching show.

I'm still watching Ranma and Inuyasha.  For me, they aren't as compelling as Maison Ikkoku, but they're still fun to watch.

Also, I began and finished Mitsudomoe.  Cute, energetic, and silly.  It was enjoyable.

Also, I began and finished Mitsudomoe.  Cute, energetic, and silly.  It was enjoyable.

I actually liked that one too.  The whole "misunderstanding" thing gets used a lot, but Mitsudomoe uses it really well.  There was some genuinely good laughs in that show.  The art style is pretty different, but that's not exactly a bad thing - they even make some of them look cute despite the chubby-ish look.  There were genuinely good characters and even if the situations were stupid, they really were funny.

Example:
(click to show/hide)

and ... the pee skating rink.   Oh ho ho... I almost peed my own pants.

I think Mitsudomoe was the anime that taught me to watch anime even if I figured I wouldn't like it, cuz I really didn't think I would.  I don't remember exactly why I watched it in the first place, but I'm glad I did.

I didn't think I'd like Clannad, but I just watched through episode 9 today and I think I really really like it.  Interesting characters, touching story so far, and some good humor mixed in, sort of a lot of good humor (Fuuko... enough said)
