Metal Gear series
« on: October 30, 2011, 04:29:20 PM »
I've never played any games in this series. Should I play them in the order they came out, or should I follow some sort of chronological order? Also, looks like there are multiple versions of some games; which would be the best of them?

I have a Playstation 2 & PSP. Thanks in advance.

I suggest playing them in the order they came out; Metal Gear Solid 1, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for the PS3 you didn't mention to have).

I have no idea about how the PSP games are because I do not own a PSP.

And about those other versions, they're (as far as I know) just essentially collector's editions.

Note: I am assuming that you mean the Metal Gear Solid games that are on Playstation(s), not all of them

Yes. Most of them seem to be on either PS1/2 or PSP with the exception of a few MSX2 games, so I'm assuming I'm not missing that much.

I like Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker for PSP a lot, especially when you play COOP with a friend.

Most of them seem to be on either PS1/2 or PSP with the exception of a few MSX2 games, so I'm assuming I'm not missing that much.
They are also included on the "Subsistence" Edition of MGS 3 if you want to play them on PS2.

The best way to play them is in release order, but you can probably play the best(number 3 snake eater) first as it is a prequel.  I know nothing about the hand-held versions, so can't help there.

I agree with what everyone else has said. I'd play them in release order.

And like others I know nothing about the handheld ones.

For the handhelds, you can omit Metal Gear Ac!d one and two, those are just side stories and not canon. Portable Ops and Peace Walker are stories of Big Boss between Metal Gear Solid 3 and Metal Gear so I recommend playing them.

love Metal Gear Solid 3 for PS1. this is just one of the best console games i ever played. really, i know the setting, storyline and genre are not for everyone and it´s a bit one-sided but in terms of gameplay this is fucking awesome!!
