Mice...Moose?

So I need to get a new mouse, my trusty $15 dollar Logitech gave out after 4 years are loving use. So I went and bought another one to tide me over while I get ready to buy a better one. Any suggestions? I know everyone has their preference and it totally depends on what you're comfortable with but it's be good to hear some thoughts.

I've been getting the MX 518 or its clones for a while now (like 6-7 years). Currently on the G5. There is also the G400 and other similar ones.

Problem has been with how they attached the cable in the mouse. My computer box is far below the mouse so it creates tension on the cable, resulting in it getting disconnected after a couple of years. Oh and I've had problems with the scroll wheel mouse button, which has lead to me not using the button... Hmm not sure I would recommend it, yet I'll probably get another clone once this current one has totally given up. Both these problems were on the 518, not any thus far on the G5.

You can get USB extension cables so that you won't have the cable tension problems.

Forgot what logitech I had before this, but it served me 3 years before right click failed. Anyways, I got the MK700 keyboard/mouse amd they seem to be doing very well. Even though it's far from needed, I also get a battery gauge on my keyboard with an on/off switch to save power. Though, not sure why logitech thinks it's such a power hog, the battery's still showing full bars after 10 months. OH, and there's a switch on the bottom of my mouse that makes the scroll wheel spin freely for "hyper-fast scrolling".

These go on sale more often than corded ones, so you can get it pretty cheap. Got mine for around twenty bucks.

As for quality... dunno, but they're all the same.

Used logitech and random cheapos before, nothing really different.

They're not, the one I picked up to return in a week or so is driving me crazy. It has a "curved" grip on the sides so it feels weird. I'm thinking about maybe getting of the ones that's like "wired and not" because having a wired mice would REALLY piss me off I think

With that said, you're right. Comfort is the determining factor when getting a mouse.

As for me, it's a basic, standard-shaped, nothing fancy type of mouse. Oh yeah,  no ergonomic whatever because rubber just irritates the hell out of me.

Sensitivity most definitively differs with each mouse,it's DPI and such play a big role in that. As well as it's connection speed, wireless are typically a bit slower then wired. I'm a nerd, and so this stuff matters to me quite a bit considering the gratuitous amount of time I spend with my hand on my mouse

Oh not top of the line, just something that works for me. Higher DPI then I had, software that isn't shit and a back button somewhere on it because that's just helpful.

I owned a G5, loved it, then I bought a G500 love it more.

G500 if you don't mind the lift-off distance. I never lift my mouse when I move it, no idea why anyone would do such a ridiculous thing.

G400 is an updated MX518 but the wheel still sucks.

Be wary of the G400. Despite being the successor of the vaunted MX518, it's made MUCH more cheaply than the MX518 and isn't worth much more than a crappy $15 mouse.

The G500, I've found, is very solid. Feels really well-built and has some heft to it - nothing like the hollow plastic shell mice you find around the $15 mark. That, along with better sensors and more buttons, is the advantage given by a higher-end mouse. It's kinda like driving a BMW after driving a Ford Focus - they'll both get you from point A to point B, but you'll never want to drive that comparatively junky Focus again after driving the BMW.

Well by the time the cord is an issue something else has already broken on it. At least that has been my experience. Why would I get a cordless mouse? Worse response time, higher minimum weight (batteries) and having to swap batteries. Some models seem to have a very long battery life, yet I would still get upset about it going out when I forgot to charge it.

I know it's off-topic, but Ford Taurus is worse. You can get that 2-3 years old at dealer auction for less than $3K, sometimes $1K. A car to get you from your mother in-law's house to the unemployment office, and back.

On topic: MK700 does have back and forward buttons on the mouse, not that I use them. Is also a clear laser rather than glowing red optical, 848nm supposedly. So far its still on the first set of batteries it came with like 10 months in, so i don't believe it'll be an issue unless you don't have enough money to buy two AA alkaline batteries a year. I can't seem to trick it with quick jerky movements or using it raised above the mouse pad, either, but it doesn't respond past 1/8in off the mouse pad.

! i want a wireless trackpad, better if it has a keyboard included, sadly none are available locally.

That analogy is fucking great.

Anyways, The current replacement I've got can certifiably not become my full time mouse, it has a pinky rest and it's making me want to go ape shit.

I've heard some really good things about the G500, I'm not sure though, it flares out at on the right side and the back, and that's the issue I'm having with this current one. Well, the one I'm using on my desktop at least...

A friend of my suggested Steel Series and they look like the kinda mouse I would like but I'm still wary of cords, my computer desk is set up poorly and I'm not sure if it's worth it. I could always plug it into my keyboard but I think the cord would then dangle on my legs and that would make me feel uncomfortable....

Laser has higher precision (and the laser is invisible). Optical is that red light that you typically see, and is the most basic mouse now that ball mice are obsolete.

Laser you can use on more surfaces than optical, which suck on clear surfaces and surfaces that absorb red light to enough of an extent.

so far I havent owned a better mouse. . .I do have a 30 dlls "gaming" mouse with 3200 dpi. . .but I only use it for gaming. . .the MX Air is like the most awesome shit ever
